best thing to do on two wheels, youll learn the correct ways and go home on your back wheel,
scary when the instructor wheelies with you on the back
you then show of to your misses, who wont be impressed, lol

I can pop the 996 in 1st and 2nd off the throttle, and can keep it up for a few seconds, or give the clutch a sniff to get it up, but I need to learn properly somewhere safe really, had a few moments last year of wonding if it was going to come back down the right way ....
Biggest mistake I made was a nice big one off the lights by a pub, lots of lads cheering from the patio, fucking straight in front of 4 coppers stood in the petrol station the other side of the road ..... Thank fuck they didn't get my plate, bit silly really but was pissing myself all the way home

Just go and find a long quiet back road and keep hitting it. Truly is a good skill to have though, when pushing on in some of the Scottish back roads there is loads of little crests and dips and not being scared of the front wheel lifting made everything much smoother for me.
Where some of my mates who wouldn't even attempt a wheelie would shit themselves the minute they got any air and would roll off, which would ust fuck them up for whatever was coming next.
On a Sportsbike you are NEVER as high up as you think and the day you hit the balance point you will be amazed how high up it feels. The first day I done it I thought I had gone too far, but then it just sat there for what felt like ages. One of the best feelings ever.
Why did I sell my R1.....??? Oh yeah because I live in New Zealand now and the roads are a fucking death liability.

The best way to learn is on an old shitter on a industrial estate (for the cost of 2 wheelie school days you can get something off ebay).
you'l soon learn why 1st gear isnt the one to use when starting out i allways found clutching in 2nd , 50mph ish was the easiest way when i started out
I strongly recomend you fit a decent steering damper before you get to cocky with it as a puff of smoke from the front tyre when you put it down is cool but 120mph tankslappers make you look like a right cunt and generally cause a trip home with shit stained pants

i wheelied once, had no idea how to ride a motorbike, (it was at the NEC show on the honda stand) and the bloke didnt help me, he must of just thought i knew how to do it, stalled it the first time then went straight into the barrier with one leg one on the floor and the front wheel high in the sky the second time
at the MFN meet i sometimes go to alot of people do it there, really is a great trick and looks so nice

DECODING JIBBA JABBA!!
I did one years ago, I thought I knew how to wheelie before the day. It's amazing what you learn on the day and realise you were a accident waiting to happen!! Now I can happily sit on the back wheel at 120+ and feel safe and in control. Nearly got chucked off the ring for wheeling from the cones when you get on to the ring to the bridge whilst passing a stripped out E30 lol. Must admit the R1 does make it a tad easier than most bikes.

god wheelie school, seriously?
every bike ive ever owned has spend more time on the rear
just give it a mit full, if its not got the poke give it some clutch on the way up
many of my 2 strokes needed wedges in the inlets so they didnt starve from being upright for so long

Just be nice to learn properly on a bike that's built for it instead of smashing fuck out of my 996 trying to learn!!

Chatting to a mate recently and he reminded me of an incident we had years ago which I had forgotten all about.
I was 17 and had just bought a Yamaha RD250 lc a wheelie monster if ever there was one, up until then I had a crappy little 125 as I was useless at doing wheelies.
Anyway I took it around to his place to show him and he nagged me to have a go on the back, bearing in mind I was not used to passengers as I had only just passed my test.
So off we go nice and gentle, get to a junction and stop, nice clear piece of road so I turn left and off we go, I give it a bit to much beans in first gear and up the front wheel goes, we both slide down the seat with me hanging onto the bars and him hanging onto me the problem was I coudnt get any weight onto the front wheel and with him hanging onto me the throttle was opening even wider so off we go down the road on one wheel, it must have looked superb, but it was a pure fluke that the weight distribution was ideal
He starts digging me in the ribs and screaming to stop and there was nothing I could do as he was pulling me off the bike.
It seemed like ages but eventually I managed to let go of the throttle and the wheel dropped back down.
That was my best and only ever wheelie.
I pulled into a bus stop and he was going nuts calling me all the names going, we took off our helmets looked at each other and just cracked up laughing, it took us 10 minutes to calm down and head back home
Even when he reminded me about it we cracked up laughing again and it must have been 25 years ago now since it happened.

littlr bikes are always more fun, best times i had were on my old 125's
when everyone had a 125 i then got an rgv250 so i always took passengers, 2 up stopppies are awesome fun!! used to go past everyone 2 up wheelies when their 125's were running out of puff, now i ride 2 'blades, pure danger but totally addictive
