This has been done a few times too!!

I made over 250bhp whilst still running a Standard Head. I had a Stage 3 T3 and just under 2 Bar of Boost.

There are certain benefits to retaining the standard head, such as low down punch. Mine lost some of its low/mid range when I swapped to a Stage 3 head. I wouldn't go back to it as I have gained in the Top End stuff, but I would stick with a Standard head if you want 220ish bhp.

I wont lie, 250bhp is unusual for a Standard Head.

greg loose the cam mate if ya gonna keep a standard head as the t2 cam is a top end power cam and ya gonna create lag and lose the power band with out it tbh

get a new standard cam and then get 220 low lag engine

ported heads are only a benifit if ya have more air to flow thrugh it otherwise ya lose power

gadget got 250bhp from a standard head and a cam BUT he was runnign more boost

zetecs dont rev enough( in standard form) top benifit the t2 cam shaft mate

good luck though

Didnt think 220 would be possble on std head....and i nearly changed it Glad ive stuck to std now....i only want 200.

What boost will i need to run on std compression to reach 200?

Engine was rebuilt less than 2k ago, new .5 pistons etc...just std comp.

Hmm, so if i run 15 psi thru the big GRS, ill get no ignition retard as acts will be low, so will i see about 185-190 at that then?

rad, unlike you i dont really care whats under the bonnet as long as its quick, cheap and reliable!zvh seems the best way,my whole car will probably cost less than a fancy 1.6 monster bottom ended efi thing that u want, and if it breaks ill find another 50 quid engine and transfer the bits!

with forced induction its going in there weather the head wants it 2 or not so i can see a s standard head restricting the power that much

I challenge anyone to get a proper 250 on a std head on a T3. Christinas made around 220 odd with about 25psi. As a comparison, Dave E's old car made exactly the same power, on the same day, with only 13.5 psi, using a big valve head. My car made 210bhp on a std head on 17psi. I could have had 220bhp with around 20psi. Worth noting though, that these were all very well sorted cars.

Nope, doesn't work like that. Airflow restriction is the only factor which limits power in a forced induction engine, apart from strength. There is only so much a cross-sectional area will flow no mattter how much pressure is applied.
