Default Any Window fitters or anyone fitted some themselves

got to change all the windows at home and have 1 which i think i could get done myself and save some dollar, and if its easy enough might attempt doing some of the others.

is it easy hard etc ? size wise wall to wall width is 119.5mm top wall to wood shelf is 118.5mm and wood shelf is 20mm thick so i presume actual window height is 205mm ? is it doesnt sit on the wood

id want double glazed with frosted glass and a air vent ideally slide so it can be opened and closed etc and the top opening

any ideas or help would be gratefully received.

Justin,

there very east to fit in.

just got to get the measurments of the opening right and get decent company to make the windows then fit them in using expanding foam and plugs screws etc....fit frame then the glass.

finished off with plastic beading if the gap is a bit big and them mastick all round.

easy.

im a fitter mate an its a piece of urine, just make sure u measure the brick openin from the outside an deduct 10-15mm from width an height an when u order it tell them measurement is including the cill, pull the trim off the inside( run a stanley round it 1st to save the wallpaper/plaster, looks like u got an external glazed unit there so remove glass from outside by firstly pullin the rubber gasket out then the beads should just clip ott an then all the fixings will become apparent, just make sure u seal it all properly when puttin new frame in

your measurements are a little off id say mate ,id say 1095x1085.
it would be worthwhile measuring on the outside and measure to the cill as the window board inside can be up or down a bit .i would add 10mm to the wall to wall measurements as you will have to remove the inside reveals a bit both sides to get the window to fit in behind the plaster reveals on the outside if that makes sense.then add 5mm to the top reveal to the cill to give you cover on the top plaster reveal.

hope this helps a bit

cheers james

we never use expanding foam to fix frames, dit of a bodgers way imho, by all means use it to seal the gaps that my be left after fitting an then as u said mastic an bead it if needed

ok mate sorry thought u meant use foam to fix it, u would be burprised at the amount of "good" window companys that use no mechanical fixings at all lol

fixing it with foam is a bodge but using it isnt as it has insulation purposes so there for i always use it , + add extra fixing as a bonus lol
