Problem is you get the mods who don't really use the site anymore that don't get the up to date banter and then come in weilding the badge and saying NO!

 

Most of the tags on this thread ended up being a couple of my mates making "jew" jokes at me, and me having a pop back at them . I certainly didnt ask for them to be removed, and as I said before, I have done a U turn, and now like the tags

We do receive complaints about offensive tags, and we can see who writes them. If they are offensive/racist then I will remove and warn the offender.

For reference, they are meant to be used to allow quick searching.

Adrian, does common sense come into it? ie all the kosman tags that are just a laugh but clearly could be offensive if say someone else's name was used in a deliberate manner?

 

So why were all the original tags removed from this thread mate?? ...not having a pop here, just genuinely interested because I've seen it happen before that the entire list of tags have been blitzed because of a couple of 'borderline' efforts.

We've needlessly lost a lot of golden tags that way.

I can understand racist stuff being edited away. But for example if a tag is aimed at me and I've seen it, but not reported it as offensive and am happy for it to stay, but you/another moderator assume that I'll be offended because if it was aimed at you then you'd not like it, do you remove it??

What I'm getting at is, surely it should be via a direct request only that tags are removed rather than at the discretion of the powers that be...

For the record Mods - I'm flattered if someone 'tags' me, so give my permission for them to stay - no matter how offensive

 

I have no idea what the original tags were so a colleague has probably removed them.

If the tag is reported as offensive to the person then it will just be removed.

What we also have to take into account are people who access the site from corporate offices that have swear filtering on the web surfing proxy. If its a post they have started, and are waiting for a response, then the swearing has to be removed from the tags so they can access it. Same applies for swearing in the post. It would have to be edited/removed.

I can see where you are coming from on the tags. If it was something aimed at me, and I found it funny, then I would allow it to stay. Its all down to personal preference.
