i bought a few years ago and rapped for parts for a kit car. Ive weighed in the shell but still have the v5 which i sorn every year. Didnt keep the plates of tags. Anyhow i have no use for the logbook now as ive sold it all. What should i do with it? Give it to one of the kit car boys on locost or something, obviously via dvla as a new keeper?

You can use it to get an age related plate on a kitcar if you have bought your donor parts bit by bit.
Nothing very shady. Its away of avoiding the Q plate. Ive given three or four away for this purpose.

i thought a certain amount of parts from the actual donor car had to be used to keep the reg although in real life thered be no way to police that.

Its policed by vosa in the sva test. They know what year of car used what running gear, well within reason. If you turn up using a 1.6 1983 logbook and the car has a t5 and cossie brakes all round they are going to smell a rat. You dont get to keep that plate, you are issued a age related plate.
