Tax Disc renewal - how stupid?
We gave my wife's old car to our eldest but never changed the keeper on the V5 - he lives here at home with us, he doesn't own the car, and why add keepers unnecessarily?
He bought and paid for his own fully comp insurance and on the certificate it says he is neither the owner or registered keeper. Neither my wife or I are named drivers because he pays enough without the extra that Direct Line wanted to add us, even though we both have clean records, and we never drive the car anyway.
We went to get the tax disc at the local post office and they wouldn't do it, even after calling the DVLA helpline - because the car is registered to my wife, but the insurance is in my son's name and we aren't named drivers.
Came home and did the renewal on the Direct.Gov website with no trouble at all.
Stupid government can't even be consistent with their own shitty rules.

Im sure somewhere in the insurance he will have been asked if he is the registred keeper!
If not this could make his insurance void in the event of a claim ,
Might be worthwhile checking to keep yourselves right

We covered that when taking out the policy and, as said, the certificate confirms he is NOT the registered keeper OR the owner so they can't deny it later.

It's strange Direct Line wanted more to add you on to the policy.
I'm 21 and I have always added my Dad and Mum to my policy, as it usually brings it down by around £200.
That has been with Admiral and HIC though.

You should live in Australia, we have a car tax system (REGO) and included in it is 3rd party insurance, good idea i think, but if like me you have fully comp on the car as well you cant get a refund on the 3rd party. Also if i was to give a car to my son no money changes hands, or even leave it to him in my will, the government will value the car and he will have to pay stamp duty on it, so it could cost quite a few dollars. In fact a car can, if sold a few times accrew more money in stamp duty than the actual value of the vehicle. What a rort. However i was lucky when i bought my escos i told them i paid $3,600 for it (they never checked on it because they have no idea what an escort cosworth is to them it is just a 1993 escort which is only worth about $3,600) and they then only charged me $200 in stamp duty in stead of the full $2000.
