Was told my car was stolen today
In the process of selling car just now. chap that was buying it was due to come on saturday to pick it up. Got home from work today and found an email saying that he HPI the car and it came up saying it was stolen. I sh*t myself and instantly done another HPI on it as i already done one when i bought it and sure enough came up saying that the car may be stolen however it has undergone a plate transfer and further investigation is required.
Heart beating like mad i phoned the number and the guy on the phone said that my car had never been stolen, it was down to one of the private plates that has been put on the car at one point in its life.
He said that a toyota avensis was stolen in 1997 and it had a private reg on it. the registration was then put on my legitimately at some point and taken back off but has left a kind of marker on my car and that has fu**ed my sale as the guy now thinks the car is stolen when its got nothing to do with my car and all to do with a registration that hasn't been on the car for 6 years.
