Can an idle valve be ok when cold, but play up when hot/engine's up to temp?

It is possible but unlikely IMO (Having a fault itself)

More likely you have a coolant sensor fault/TPS fault/MAP fault or the idle control isnt set up properly on the ECU

Everything is clear on diagnostics, did have coolant temp sensor flag up months back, and was changed.
This is an E39 M5.
Last on my list this idle valve now really.
Have cleaned it and checked pipes, not tested yet, so just wondering if temp can affect it.

Did once read that the link from throttle to ecu gets 'lost' sometimes, and is a trait of these, something like that anyway - but can't find this info now.

It's ok when cold, only when hot - come to a stop and revs can hunt 2/3/4 times, sometimes then stalling; sometimes will be coming up to junction out of gear, then will die.
It's intermittent though, so catches you out

James - sorted(ish) power to freeview, all I got was no signal.
Of course I can't get it in the house, so won't get it in car in the drive
2012 we get it...!

Dunno - I didn't even think it would have one being all electronic crap, otherwise would have looked here first!
It's like an old 2.0 cavalier's inside, as you shake it inside turns and knocks - did free up a touch, but by no means stuck or sticking really.
Pipe either end and an electrical connector, pretty old school looking to me??

About 80 nuts and bolts to remove top intake box, no wonder car weighs so much
