cat b write off
hi my brother has got a sierra which was a cat b write off in 2001,he got it 3 months ago and still has not got the log book ,it has been mot every year since doe's anyone now if this should still be on the road or should it have been crushed we can find no damage to the car or any sign it has been damaged,to be honest it is mint all panels are still date stamped etc,any help thanks
I think there are loop holes that allow a cat B to be kept on the road.
Make sure it isn't a ringer though as I would have thought to get a cat B there should have been structural damage?? Unless it was fire damaged?

catbs can be from various reasons not allways slaughtered, people generally believe they cant go back on road, but in reality if you get one apply for logbook then they will call you in for a vic job done in 20 mins, yours was years ago prob well easy back then
all the numbers tally up ,no welding around the floor,to be honest never been welded,he did the hpi through one of those car check numbers on tv cost him £3 are thse any good
if im rite in saying that if you buy a cat b car even tho u sign it over into your name you will not receive the v5 untill it goes through a vic check if it hasent already done so.
thats the story with a cat c anyway just guesing about a cat b

cat d - can go straight back on the road with no inspection,
cat c - needs a vic check,
cat b - can be broken for parts only
cat a - crushed with no parts avalible
a cat b on very very rare times can be changed to a cat c,, to do this you need a qualified insurance assesor to make the decition that it is not a cat b and a cat c,
this very rarely happens

those tv hpi things are shit mate there was a post on here the other day think it was forsportjay who said someone bringing him a car down to px in did one of those and it came up clean and he did a proper hpi check and it was on the list for something!!
If u have no log book or paperwork how do u know its a cat b write off?! if by the phone txt thing dont take that as gospel. If it has been MOT'd every year since 2001 and assuming it still is surely it is allowed to be on the road?!

cat a, b, c, and d can all go back on the road.
the cat marker is an advisory from the insurer and legally means nothing.
in my time at vosa i have vic checked a b and c markered cars.
the only marker that prevents a vehicle from returning to the road is a cod marker which is issued upon a vehicles destruction.
ive seen a few flood damaged cars fall into cat b which may explain yours with no visable repairs

VIC didn't start till 2003 so it won't have had one and won't need one.
If it's been taxed since 2001 then DVLA must agree to it being on the road.
How does he know it's Cat B, the seller said?
Maybe it's a C not B.
