Default Cossie - cones, exhaust noise and smooth running

Chaps (and chapesses), took Paddy (Paddy1977) out in my cossie the other day and he commented on how smooth it was.

I have since thought about it and realised that since I've had it I have made the following mods:

-Stage 1 - overall improvement
-Mongoose 3" exhaust + 2" tail - much improved mid-range
-Recently added a cone filter (stainless steel mesh one), and removed the standard DV (not running DV now) - the car feels like it's been liberated, better pickup, feels much stronger, etc...

Would you agree this is a good "recipe" for a nice running cossie ?

Also, the mongoose used to be quite "boomy" below and around 3K rpm. Since I have added the cone filter, the noise has dropped significantly - how can that be explained ?

Before I get blamed for taking this complete;y off topic...

Gregs 4x4 pulls SO smoothly, feels powerful all through the rev range

I would also like to know if all similar specced cossys perform the same?

Ginge, I know what you mean, but I did drive the car recently, before the cone was fitted, and it felt like I was driving a bus (well, compared to the 2wd), and the noise was definitely there - burble, burble, burble.

Since fitting the cone, the car flies and the burble has gone.

Have you recently taken to wearing ear muffs due to the cold weather? This could account for you not hearing the exhaust.

Just a thought.

No paddy, I have taken the loop off my earmuffs and the rest is in my trousers to keep things warm for when passengers want to put their head between me and the steering wheel
