anyone in the know with PC's online ? (new build)
looking to build something along the lines of the same spec as this but without the case and PSU :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
is there anything in there thats not advisable ?
would be keeping my old case / PSU / SSD harddrive and DVD writer to add to whats in the listing sort of thing
where is the best place to get it all ?
dont want be spending any more £150 !!

got a 600 watt jobby , cant remember what brand now but not long bought it , i know its a descent one anyway
the pc wouldn't be used for anything tooo heavy , few games and video editing at most then just photoshop and tinternet
my current set up is enough but is getting a bit old now
Pentium 4
SSD HD for the OS
2 500 gb storage drives
2gb ram
etc etc
is just getting a bit temperamental and the MB is on its way out i think

the pc in the link includes building / case / psu and a profit for the builder , all of which i don't need plus i can drop things like the DVD burner if necessary and maybe the graphics card as mine is fairly new but not the best as it was bought to get up and running after killing the last one
hopefully i can get the bits to build a similar spec for around £150 , ideally less

I'd buy my parts off ebuyer.com if I was looking to build a custom unit but you should also check out places like Maplin's etc.

*EDIT* You should of just bought that one off ebay for £250 and patted yourself on the back.

might be struggling with the budget your on the best i can do is
AMD Phenom II Dual-Core 3.10Ghz clock speed (AM3 Socket) £60
Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £55
Corsair XMS2 DHX 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 TwinX Dual Channel - £30
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4350 1024MB DDR2 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £40
on that sort of budget it really is the lower end of the spec and wouldn't really be handling many of the latest games that well, i would deffo consider waiting abit and saving abit more or selling what you have now and buying something prebuilt as something like your link or what ive specced isn't that great and will soon be out of date
use either www.overclockers.co.uk or www.ebuyer.com

how much would i be looking at for a similar spec to the one in my link for just the components less the case / PSU / DVD drive
i currently have a radeon X1550 graphics card , is that worth saving ?
is it worth getting the 4gb ram as will only have Xp (32bit)

I really shouldnn't bother replying due to the e-bay link but it is computer related. You seem to sort of know what you are on about so get the parts off ebuyer.com and build it to the spec you want. Next day delivery if you need it and returns procedure if something is faulty. Ram + Cpu + Graphics are vital for video editing. I have 3 gig ram for Battlefield 2 lol

roughly £150 the graphics card isn't the best, so if your wanting to play any games that have just come out your going to be struggling you can never have enough ram the more the better, obviously if you only get 2gb windows is going to be using 25%-50% of it before you have even done anything so that doesn't leave you with much

TBH the spec i already have is enough when its working ! , its just getting very temperamental with bluescreens and random crashes
only game that i got that it struggles with at min is NFS shift and i don't really play them many games
something a little better that what i have now and more reliable is fine for me !

CPU = £71.45 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173368
Motherboard = £36.65 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169475
RAM (4gb) = £64.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142387 (Ebay PC has 8gb)
With half the amount of RAM the ebay machine has and providing you use your graphics card and hard drives from your current PC your already looking at £175.
Honestly mate, if I was you I'd really consider selling yours in the local paper and buying a ready made machine.

yes if you get a really shitty cpu, but you will soon regret it as it wont be that much of an upgrade from what you have

I got one of these myself about 2 weeks ago, and am using it now.
http://cgi.ebay.co.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-245-X2-DUALCORE-CPU-2GB-GF8100-MOTHERBOARD-BUNDLE_W0QQitemZ400065576019QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ Motherboards_CPUs?hash=item5d25c43c53uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400065576019&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Same basic kit as listed above but half the memory (another 2GB is only £50) and the built-in graphics is a nVidia chipset so not some cheap one.
Plugged it all together with my current setup and installed Windows7 and it was working fine straight away.
One thing to remember on your graphics card is that almost all motherboards now are PCI-E x16 spec, not the older AGP or PCI. If your old card is one of those 2, I would get rid of it anyway as the motherboards are obsolete as far as I can find.

my GFX card is PCI so will have to be used the mrs' PC
that bundle seems a fair price , should be able to get that + gfx card and few other bits for £200

problems what i see IMO with that spec
2gb of CHEAP ram
horrible cheap brand of motherboard
no graphics card and the on-board gfx would struggle to run minesweeper nevermind any decent game
just wouldn't make sense to me to even go down that route

Cheap motherboard, yes Gigabyte IS better, but this is still better than something like ECS (Elite Group) which are truly nasty.
Graphics card will always be limited by the fact that it is on-board, but if the OP does decide to upgrade, he can. For now, it is a compromise which, on a £150 or so budget anything will be a compromise TBH.
My previous system cost me about £400 to build a few years ago. Top brand Gigabyte AMD board, 64-bit top-spec AMD 64-bit processor, DDR400 memory, Audigy soundcard setup, top nVidia graphics and a lot more. But.... I never used it to its capacity, NEVER used the 64-bit processing and was so overkill it was unbelievable. This one is faster, smoother, works with newer technology (which neither my old one or the OP one does) and all for a fraction of the price. Yes, I will be upgrading the memory (adding not replacing) shortly, but that is all TBH until something needs to be changed.
The advantage with a system like I posted was that the cheap things can always be upgraded @ a later date should they be required to.
Unfortunately, with something like IT, there will never be a conclusive right or wrong.

i know what your saying, but if he buys what your saying hes going to have to wait to save up again to buy a gfx card and more ram etc so hes spending even more which i dont think he wants to do, i think he wants to be able to use the computer now? and with an on-board gfx card he can forget about any sort of gaming, with 2gb of awful ram and an average cpu he will no dbout find the computer no better then what he already has

there seems to be a few good pre built systems on ebay at a descent price so think i going go for something down that route
something i have noticed though is the seller in my first post , although has plenty positive feedback they also have a fair few neg feedback for dodgy stuff like fake stickers on memory and different specs to advertised
should i trust them ??????

meant palicomp (one from ebay) , i know overclockers are spot on , i built most of my current PC with stuff from them !
i could try giving palicom a call and asking if i was to win one of their auctions , if they will supply it unbuilt without the bits i dont need and chucking in something else instead , doubt it would work though !!
their auctions seem to be well specced for the price they go for , overclockers are 100% spot on a bit more expensive (compared to palicom auctions not BIN's)

I would never buy anything computer related off ebay. Always trust an actual business. If overclockers is up the road then you are on to a winner straight away. I wouldn't bother building it for games tho, buy a PS3 instead
