Apple Mac users.....
Im looking to buy a laptop and i was in the apple shop messing about with them for a while. I am looking at the white plastic MacBook and the aluminium bodied MacBook Pro. There is a £100 price difference between the two. I cant see if it is £100 better though. The pro has a illuminated keyboard and is aluminium are the only differences i can see.
Anyone help me out on which one i should go for?

All current MacBooks are aluminum, so the white plastic one is the older model. Hard drive capacity, CPU speed and RAM should all be improved on the aluminum models
once you go mac you never go back. best thing av done there the tits av got a mac book pro 15inch and when i get a desktop 27 inch i mac will be on the cards. apple stuff is up the road.

I get a good discount because im a student at the moment, so i can get a pro for the same price as a normal mac, which is good! I do prefer the aluminium body tbh...
Think it was May or June, it was just about the same time as the iPhone 3Gs was launched. I won't go back to windows now, I've well and truly been sucked in by the Mac. The stuff is soooo sexy.

I had a go in the shop and it just seems so much smoother to use. I like those wee MacBook airs but the prices are silly!
I think I can use my 3GS as a remote for it too which is cool!

MacBook Pro is for my daily internet usage and travel. Go for the Macbook Pro
The Mac Pro is STRICTLY for my studio. No internet on that machine what so ever.
You'll never go back to a PC i'm sure of it

Went to the apple shop today again to ask about my student discount. I'm going up Thursday to get a MacBook pro!
The MacBook pro is £899 but £782 with student discount.
The Macbook is £799 but £703 with discount.
So if your for buying an apple mac or iMac, get a mate/relative who's at college/uni to purchase it. Great saving!

Everyone says Mac's are better than PC's and my Mrs really wants a Mac, so Im tempted to get one next year. My question is: How hard is it to convert to a Mac? I hate changing/learning something new. Would rather just stick to something I know... But I like the look of Mac's and everyone recommends them. I love my IPhone and will be getting a 3Gs on upgrade, so more Mac stuff wouldn't hurt
Next question is: What about software? Obviously you can't run MS Office on it?? How much does similier packages cost or can you run Windows stuff on it? All info would be appreciated

What?! £899 for a MacBook Pro? I paid £1500!
Edit: Ahhh, you're getting the small 'baby' MacBook Pro. Enjoy! Just hope that hard drive is big enough for all your porno.

And as for Office, you do get office for Mac which i was all set for buying at £90, but the woman in the apple shop said apples version of Office (iWork) is very very similar and can open word documents etc and you can use them as normal and save them as word documents too, so not much point in buying Office over iWork.
Stoo have you seen the cool thing you can do with the keyboard on your Pro? Its called iSpazz, put it in youtube its cool.
its not just the programes etc its just a all round better package
switch a mac on within 10 seconds your ready to go no chance with windows
plus no anti virus slowing a mac down etc
all these things make it quicker and a better experiance

there are so many better things about them mate, i was always a pc fanboy until i bought one.
I use both, I have macs for work (design trade) and a pc laptop for home use because it is cheaper and doesn't need to be anything clever.
Now, I can't comment on performance, BUT the mac is so easy to use, so straight forward and simple.
If i was looking for a laptop that I could do lots with, it would be a mac everytime just because i find them simple and easy to use.

you do know that windows is ALOT quicker then mac?

"This performance gap can be as much as 34% faster"
"plus no anti virus slowing a mac down etc" - if an anti virus programme is slowing your pc down then its time to upgrade to something that came out after 2000
"switch a mac on within 10 seconds your ready to go no chance with windows" - if a quick bootup time is really what your after then with the right commands and settings you can also do this in windows

my computer is alot better specced then the mac pro which im looking at and mine was £700 and the mac pro is £1899 and thats the starting model?
Must admit those graphs don't count with out the spec of both machines.
Mac have been doing for years more so in the power PC times, just like putting one machine on one dyno and matching it a machine on another dyno.
Hate them hate, total bullshitters, they just have a great marketing machine and you stupid cunts buy them.
I have worked with Mac since 1994 and they are CRAP, they are better these days are they use intel chip sets, so why do you pay more for what is just a intel latop?
OSX is good, well the latest one is good, but why pay the Apple tax, they are just intel boxes.
you will fined you can get a latop with the same chip sets for half the price just to need to blag the BIOS.

both machines were evenly matched

or the purpose of this article, the Intel based Mac Mini was selected to compare the Windows XP and Mac OS X operating systems. The primary reason for the Mac Mini selection was that it has the best overall driver support of the available Intel based systems available. The system was upgraded to the full system specs available from the Apple web site and are as follows:
- Intel Core Duo T2300 (1.67GHz) Dual Core Processor
- 2GB PC2-5300 DDR2 Memory (5-5-5-15 Timing)
- 120GB 5400rpm 8MB SATA Hard Drive
- 8x DVD+/-RW Burner
- Intel GMA 950 Integrated Graphics
- AirPort Extreme 802.11b/g Wireless and Bluetooth
