Duratec Tuning

i know you say your an amatur but maybe it could be a good build for you to do.
if it was me id put in the st engine you have and look at turboing later on rather than doing it in one go. i know that way you go from 100 to 150 to 250ish bhp but you may find 150 enough, as its half as much power again.
maybe you could get a ride in various powered and engine spec fiestas to help you decide, like a turbo one, supercharged and an n/a one and that would help you decide what kind of spec you want rather than throwing money into a turbo conversion to not like it later on.
just my opinion though

lol your right mate it is alot of money but remember thats a drive in drive out conversion and alot of people forget about all the little parts that soon add up to a major part of the whole conversion.
heres a list of some of the little bits having done a similar conversion first time round
with engine block being built without manifolds.
inlet manifold (using st150 ) 3 n/a
durtatec cosworth throttle body £300
modiying st 150 exhaust manifold £100
injetors x4 £250
tps sensor £40
air temp sensor £18
turbo £850+
pectel t2 management £650
custom wiring harness £450
boost pipes £100
silicon pipes £150
pro alloy front mounted interooler £400
alloy radiator £350
aeromotive fuel pressure reg £140
uprated fuel pump £100
thats a total of £3898 and these are just rough prices
so £7000 aint looking to bad when your got the block build in that with rods and pistons , honing etc , plus the man hours it takes to do this conversion as i remember ian saying it was a bit of a bastard to fit in.
anyway good luck mate with what ever your doing and if you do use ian tell him paul from derby sent you and iam sure he will look after you
cheers paul

When you put it like that it's actually quite a good price!
You can get bolt on kits for the duratec on this side of the pond, naturally focus based as no st150 fiesta's over here but http://www.focussport.com/turbocharger.htm should give you an idea of what can be done leaving the internals standard.

I have also had the thought about getting the ST engine in first for the exact reason you stated, build myself up to getting used to having some power!

Graham mate - the best guy to speak to is Ric Wood http://www.ricwood.com/
he is the man when it comes to Duratecs, builds race engines day in day out and had some very good ideas about mine and was keen to progress the project - just a lack of funds on my part stopped it

Graham the kit in the states is the same one on my car just I use a td04 turbo not the gt28rs alot of those guys use
and obviously I have the 10psi version
You will need it to be mapped though as IIRC the fuel in america is only something like 91ron so the tunes that come with the kit will need a re-adjust
And if you want to come out in mine i'd be more than happy to take you for a spin m8 but I don't know where you live?
Oh and mine has been running like this for other a year and a 1/4 now so I think it's fairly ok to prosume 10psi is ok on std internals (thats what most the boys in the states do)
and obviously I have the 10psi version

I'm more of a cheque book mechanic m8 tbh but i'm 99% sure it's got a de-comp plate - is that right?
My understanding is it creates slightly more room in your engine to change the compression ratio!
Apologies if this is wrong as I said i'm a cheque book mechanic

Yeah I live in Kent so a bit far But cheers for the offer anyway!

just wondered with you saying about the standard internals and thought turbos usually need that bit of compression lowering
although some supercharges dont

Have a look at www.zetecinside.com
You could go with some titan roller barrel throttle bodies
Look at his links and have a read up and think about what you ultimately want and the power you want too .

on a 2l we have 385 bhp with a sc kit with modded engine
on 2.3l we have 400 bhp with a sc kit with modded engine
on 2.5l we have 440 bhp with a sc kit with modded engine
all of the kits we make in house but with a rotrex super charger this give a very linnier power curve on a stock engine with just cams and cosworth d-power inlet we see 320bhp @10psi peek. we have carried out over 100 of these kits and 50% of them would be over 280 bhp.

on a fiesta st the sc kit is all done in a morning, if it has a 2.3 engine aswell then that takes a bit longer that takes a day just depends on what we do.
we pride ourselves on how quick we can get them done
on one car we did a 2.3 full engine sc kit uprated gear box with atb diff ap 4pot kit suspension full exhast system 660 cc injectors and map all done in a day making 360 bhp
