na, you've all got the wrong end of the stick. i just set myself up as a driver, driving vans an 7.5 tonners. did well for the first few month then it died a death. was charging around a tenner an hour. i could beat agency rates then. but then i packed that up. i'm self employed as a driver working with a repossession agent for cars. but at the moment it is sh*te, everyone is hiding the cars. an we can't find them for love nor money, ya get paid on each car ya get back for the finance company. its not an hourly rate, but it may pick up if our office gets there finger out of there ass an starts tracing the debters properly
Yeh being a sub contractor, can have its down sides. Thats why I dont subcontract, as your basically getting all the down sides of being self employed plus your at the mercy of the company employing you.
Being in the repo business much be hard work, I dont think i could take the flack of the public having their cars lifted.
As said something will come up, you just have to be in the right place at the right time and have a little bit of luck.

I say this because you are 'working' 70 hours a week for £100?
er???
I'd jack that off and be working in a supermarket or washing cars or delivering takeaways or something.
Mcdonalds or cleaning jobs or security work. There are LOTS of ways of making alot more than £100 a week.

i know its boring but the money is security has improved massivley since sia licensing became compulsory, I earn £412 after tax per week working for Reliasnce as a mobile alarm response officer, it can be fun but at the same time it can be boring, its an eassy job to get into and at present security companies are desperate for staff across the country, could be worth ringing a few and try

it will get better mate.
times are tough for allot of people,i have been very lucky through all this but i know plenty of brickies like me who have not worked for over a year.
i would say there have been very good suggestions on here work wise.
if you have another engine maybe you could sell the salvage from the old engine on ebay? may fund a present or two for the kids.
if it gets any worse perhaps the citizens advice might be able to help.
