mini DV will be the smallest i reckon (handy for in car footage with a suction cup holder thingy ) i got one a couple of years ago and still look relatively small................just firewire to PC and burn to what format you like SVCD VCD or DVD

job done

some of the smaller ones have a shorter battery life tho so you might want to get some extra batteries or heavy duty ones.

i would advise people against using ebuyer now. their prices are really good but their if something goes wrong their customer support i shite

you cannot contact them by email or phone. the only way is to send the an 'enote' which they never reply to

have a look at http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...omplaint&meta= to see how bad ebuyer is getting!

like you say the best plan is to decide on amodel and then use the price comparison sites to see who will do you the best deal

I was originally going to buy one of those spiffy Sony ones that record directly to Mini DVD, but found out that the format is proprietary so you can only play the disc and NOT download or edit any of the video.

After doing LOTS of reading on the subject, I ended up buying a Panasonic PV-GS200 and have been REALLY happy with it.

Check out: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php

Do some reading on that site and check out their comparisons, they are pretty interesting.

350 is way bigger than the 109..and the IP1E is using microMV system..
its compressed video into MPEG2 and tapes are expensive and hard to get hold of... MiniDV is the only system worthwile today imo..

You can never go wrong with Sony kit Gareth!!

Pick your budget and get whatever Sony sell at that price (or is that just me? )

ive just bought a jvc from dixons, could have got it cheaper but i know where to take it back if i have any probs,

it a mini dv, has the small hour long tape in the side fooki well smart motorised load etc , i was goin to get the mini dvd thing but the discs dont last as long as the tapes , approx 45 mins on the disc , but on std record the digi tape will do 1hour , then you got the long play, also got 3 fookin bright leds on the front for a bit of dark action , and what seams like 10,000,000 times zoom, would recommend the bigger battery as well , got all the lot , cam , tripod, case , three tapes for about £350 - got mem stick for stills as well, or take em on the tape , also - a must have a/v in , can put all your old porno's onto digital then !!!!!

Bought the above back in July just before our daughter was born. Didn't know whether to get mini dv myself, but couldnt justify the extra price just to get a smaller unit etc

Have to say its been a brilliant bit of kit - cant fault it and at the price its at now if you just wanted a cheap unit (like you mentioned a few posts ago) I would say this would be a good buy
