Default How much have you wasted on car insurance?

Seen as i've never made a claim I thought i'd depress myself with some maths!

So far in my motoring life i've paid roughtly £6800 to insurance companies and i'm only 21! That's four years of driving! If premiums stay as they are (they don't seem to be getting cheaper anyway!) then by the time I retire i'll have paid £70,000 to the legal bandits!

Then I will definitely have to write off something expensive just to get my monies worth!!

I wish our country had some sort of third party cover provided in the road tax as other countries do. It would solve so many problems with uninsured drivers etc.

Cheers for making me get the noose out

Used to pay £7k a year at the garage in mid 90's (4 drivers under that).
Paid £4k to insure my 3dr after a ban, cheapest cossie insurance i had was £2300

I have had a clean licence for 2 years now and pay £3k a year for a bloody Avensis, and i am on the slippery slope to 30

Its not hard to see why there are so many uninsured drivers about.

god dunno if i even wanna begin counting that lot up

erm 1st yr AxGt was £706,next yr that Ax then its replacment due to a taxi wipin out the 1st was another £700odd .then i got banned and bought an RST which cost £1600 when i got license back
its nenewal was about £1200 and 2 months into that i bought my 3door which cost £166 a MONTH
when that yr was up i paid £1200 odd for my saff. that went on fire with a month of policy left and i lost 4 yrs ncb
then £750 on my cbr6,£450 on a nova td r/about which died after a month so paid the policy up over the year anyway so i could get ncb and drive other vehicles 3p (car had bin scrapped )
thats now up so i've paid £550 to insure my puggy and then lastly reinsuring my bike cost £390 and then another £90 to change to the gixxer750 after the cbr6 got wiped by some dumb burd in a clio

hmmmmmm lets do the maths,

holybejesus it comes to £8296

i had NO idea cos never dreamt of adding it up

cheeRS Phil i'm now gutted

Jim, unfortunately to be covered to drive any car at my age I have to use Norwich Union, and they charge a fooooooking fortune. And I busted my Cossie about 1 month into a classic policy = no refunds on that!

If paying nearly 7k in that time isn't enough, what makes it even more of a con is that I (and most other people) wouldn't claim for anything less than a major smash, as it is just not financially viable to do so

After excess, loss of NCB, rise in future premiums etc, I reckon claiming on the insurance would cost over £2.5k for most young drivers.

not anymore for me ,i had cossies for 14yrs ,3 drs rs 500,and a fully blown track car ive paid thousands in insurance and never made a claim ,and all i used them for was a few journeys a year, the 500 only travelled 14miles in 2 yrs so ithought enough was enough and sold them ,i will get something i can use on a daily basis and get the full use out the car and my insurance
