You have to knock and be cheeky, i did to a guy that had a Capri sat on his drive for about 7yrs, apparently had loads of people ask "you wanna sell that old Capri mate?" but in his words "they were just muppets with no idea!", i did a bit of research on the car (could see the front plate) and then knocked on the door. Cos of this and talking to the bloke in a polite and pleasant manner, i now have a genuine 280 Brooklands sat in my garage needing a full resto all for the grand sum of Ł800.

It maybe that they got a bit spooked by you Jacko if you are as you say a rough looking fooker.

They may not have wanted you snooping about. I know if someone knocked my door and looked a bit rough, asking to buy stuff that was hidden away, I would want them gone asap.

Maybe write a nice letter explaining that you love your fords, and restore them, and would jump at the chance to bring another one to it's former glory rather than it be sat tucked away.

Explain that you think it must have been a bit of a shock for you to have just knocked the door and put them on the spot, then offer your details - workshop details for them to check you out and see you are legit.

Finally tell them that you would give them a fair price and would have the car removed with the minimum of fuss and if they wanted, see the car when finished.

Maybe end it by saying you will call round in a weeks time to see if they have changed their mind, but if they would prefer you not to, to just give you a quick call and you will not pester them any further.

This gives you a chance to show them your genuine, gives you a lead back in to speak to them again, and plants the seed of a sale in their mind.
