Focus 1.6 Zetec is a good place to start. Thats what I had when I was 18 and just passed. £2k should get your a decent one. Make sure its got climate pack, thats a nice extra. It adds air con, heated front screen, heated & electric mirrors & heared washer jets.

depends on what insurance you can get and what you want from the car.

A 1.6 focus is nice, but can you get insurance? Plus it is a pretty big first car, do you need something that big, or would a smaller car like a fiesta zetec s be more of a fun first car, same size lump but a lighter car so quicker.

Get something sh*t and cheap you wont care about, statistics say that you WILL crash it. If you buy a 1.6 focus and throw money at it when it comes to the time you can get something you really want you'll be annoyed you didnt just save the money.

I got myself a tax and tested mk2 fietsa for £50 and it lasted me 13months! then I had enough money saved up to buy my BMW E30 which I had always loved.

The Ford Fusion. It's a roomy interior, sporty 4-door car. It has really clean lines and can come fully loaded or with a basic package and still be just as cool. It also can come as a hybrid...if you're looking to get really good gas mileage.

If you can put up with the stick, then a Ka is a good first car. I had one.

I currently drive a 1.8 focus Mk1 and id go back to a ka hands down if it wasn't a 1.3 8v.

Makes me wish i had carried on my project Ka, and im tempted into a sportka for my next daily driver.

Go for something small is generally the rule, and with a small engine. You can build up some road skills in that and hopefully get some NCB then switch to something better.

a focus 1.6 zetec is a group 6 exactly the same as a 1.25 fiesta zetec
quin allways quote the cheapest on provisional but when passed it will double sometimes treble the premium

I paid £1300 after doing pass plus when I was 18 with 0 ncb and only had licence for 2 months. Thats was a 5 year old 1.6 Focus Zetec.

Isnt a Fez ZS a higher insurance group as its a sportier model? Focus is only group 5 or 6.

Got the shock of a life time when my insurance came up, £1.400 for a 1.6 escort x reg with 10 years no claims. shocking. would have loved a focus for my first car but dont let having a nice car for your first rule your head.
