to be honest, the rest of the electrics and general condition was shocking 9no pun intended) but most of it has been sorted now.

i do have to admit, if i'd know there was power in the bathroom there would be heated towel rails and one of those mirrors that heats itself to prevent condensation!

still.. too late now!

no idea where to bond it to though!
wouldn't be surprised if when the face plate does come off there's no earth in there anyway! the conductor is probably wrapped in cotton old school stylee.
They can be attached to any earth from any circuit, however, a local circuit that is used in the bathroom would be the right way!

If there isn't mate just bond between all pipes for now as the incoming water and gas (should??) be earthed. It will at least give you a little piece of mind.

Have been called so many times to little jobs like this only for effing great ballsups to be uncovered

Don't want to worry you bud but get a pro in and forget screwfix etc u can't b too carefull with 'leccy

hope i'v atleast helped slightly to get you head round it i can help tmoz but gotta go partyin now so have to leave the world of passionford
thanks mate. pretty sure the ceiling is lathe and plaster due to the problems i had fitting the new light and also pretty sure that the cables will be going into the floor.

enjoy the party. don't do anything i wouldn't do!

believe it or not the electrics have been tested but i guess the fact that this outlet was hidden was missed.. dunno, i'm no expert.

funnily enough i don't mind dealing with electrics if i start from scratch as i know what i'm dealing with. i still get it checked for the sake of my own sanity but i do hate dealing with unknowns - and this is certainly one of those!

i think i'd be reasonably content if the live cables were sealed up and below the floor.

if it were me though, i'd be making sure that the wiring to the plug was chansed etc as i think the likelyhood is that it's going to be spurred off another socket rather than on the main ring
prob the most sensible thing ive seen you write on here

Oh and ideally you really want those cables jointed under the floor, i'll be surprised if the backbox itself hasn't gone rusty and with all the condensation about under the bath/possible leaks that could also cause nuisance tripping problems....

I agree, remove it then fill it. If you have the slightest doubt with electrics get a reputable and if possible recommended electrician to do the work for you. Years ago i caught a live wire with the tip of a screwdriver and the resulting bang and jolt made me think i had been shot lol.
