help! live socket under bath!
I would leave it, as it is nicely positioned to be able to plug a bar heater into to keep the bathroom nice and worm in the winter
only joking that would seriously worry me, if that is what the previous owners were willing to do what the hell is the rest of the electrics like, for piece of mind I would get the rest of the electrics tested,
A small price to pay for safety and piece of mind.

i do have to admit, if i'd know there was power in the bathroom there would be heated towel rails and one of those mirrors that heats itself to prevent condensation!
still.. too late now!
I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!

From: Dewsbury, The parts were they don't abduct their own children!
thanks for the advice... already noticed the lack of earth (believe it or not).
no idea where to bond it to though!
wouldn't be surprised if when the face plate does come off there's no earth in there anyway! the conductor is probably wrapped in cotton old school stylee.

If there isn't mate just bond between all pipes for now as the incoming water and gas (should??) be earthed. It will at least give you a little piece of mind.
Have been called so many times to little jobs like this only for effing great ballsups to be uncovered
Don't want to worry you bud but get a pro in and forget screwfix etc u can't b too carefull with 'leccy
sorry well when you get the face of the socket look witch way the wires go if they go up then they'll go into metal sheeving just behind the plaster against the inside brick work if you get what i mean, then into the ceiling, if they go down they'll go into the floor, being behind the bath though cuttin a hole out wouldn't be too much of a problem to get to the wires, i'll hazard a guess being victorian the ceilings will be lath and plaster making the cutting a hole out useless really cos it'll be a nightmare hope i'v atleast helped slightly to get you head round it i can help tmoz but gotta go partyin now so have to leave the world of passionford
enjoy the party.
don't do anything i wouldn't do!
This exactly what I was thinking fella get a qualified sparky in to sort it and give rest of the installation a once over

funnily enough i don't mind dealing with electrics if i start from scratch as i know what i'm dealing with. i still get it checked for the sake of my own sanity but i do hate dealing with unknowns - and this is certainly one of those!
i think i'd be reasonably content if the live cables were sealed up and below the floor.
Too many posts.. I need a life!!

plug something into the socket, sensible like a radio or the like
turn it on
go to the fuse panel and start to turn the circuits off
when you have found the right one, make sure it's kept off
then do what has been suggested above and use a blanking plate and a waterproof fitting for out door use and fit it in place of the existing plug
if it were me though, i'd be making sure that the wiring to the plug was chansed etc as i think the likelyhood is that it's going to be spurred off another socket rather than on the main ring

Lol yeah don't generally need to fuck about bonding every pipe in sight as long as it's all coverd by a 30ma rcd, and the main gas/water has been done. Oh and ideally you really want those cables jointed under the floor, i'll be surprised if the backbox itself hasn't gone rusty and with all the condensation about under the bath/possible leaks that could also cause nuisance tripping problems....

I agree, remove it then fill it. If you have the slightest doubt with electrics get a reputable and if possible recommended electrician to do the work for you. Years ago i caught a live wire with the tip of a screwdriver and the resulting bang and jolt made me think i had been shot lol.
