wouldn't be surprised if when the face plate does come off there's no earth in there anyway! the conductor is probably wrapped in cotton old school stylee.
They can be attached to any earth from any circuit, however, a local circuit that is used in the bathroom would be the right way!
If there isn't mate just bond between all pipes for now as the incoming water and gas (should??) be earthed. It will at least give you a little piece of mind.
