N97 experts!!
Ok ive got myself a N97 on 3 as a free upgrade!
its on version 11.0.021 software and nokia website says theres no new upgrades.
Ive heard people saying you ideally need version 12 software.
Also i want debranding software.
Any one know where to download and install from that will still mean the phone actually works. I know 3 use a slightly different architecture for thier sim cards (they wont work in non 3 phones) so can i still debrand/upgrade without writing the phone off??

i debranded my n95 and can use my 3 mobile broardband sim in it, i got my software off the torrents sites took me a while to find it though, don't think my software will do your n97 though 
, have to admit my phone was so much better after de-branding and updating.

yea you use this software to get into the phones grograming software and change the phones id each phone provider have different id codes you need to find a gen nokia id code and change the old one with the software, it's not that hard once it's all in front of you i did it in a hour or so the longest part is loading the new software up from nokia and installing it i did have a tight arse hole whilst switching the phone on for the first time after doing it

the other thing i want to do is make it so my web bookmarks appear on the home page with a custom icon for each site like you get in the address bar for many sites on a pc.
At the moment all my bookmarks have the same internet icon so you cant tell them apart until the cursor is over them when the bookmark name shows up!!

I debranded my n95 8GB mine with NSS (Nemesis Service Suite) which is easily downloaded from the net, and im also on 3, phone works fine after debranding.
Although someone on here recently said that debranding a n97 is more complicated? how true that is im not sure

Only thing that concerns me is if it would no longer work with 3 network SIM's.
Seems a good phone but a few things annoy me like you cant set the wallpaper to tile or resize etc which a lot of phones youve been able to do for years on other phones.
I still want to be able to put my bookmarks on the homepage with a custom logo rather than the standard web logo.

if debranded i take it i cant send it back to voda for repair ?
if it goes wrong and it be rebranded so i can send it back or would they be able to tell it had been mucked about with ?

ive got a n97 on vodafone and ive had v.12 software for over a month now
download and install the nokia software updater program then you should be able to install v.12

it doesnt work because its a normal consumer interface so it checks your phone id, realises its a branded phone and obviously only allows you the upgrades known to be compatable with your branding software.
From what ive read its mostly the branding software that screws things up!!!
What i need is the way to hack it so i can directly remove the branding and then download the latest versions.
Not seen any links so far??

yeah BM but how do i know which ones are safe and not full of crap/viruss???? such debrandingwebsites and free download sites are always pretty dodgy unless you know the source is trusted, hence im after someone whose done it with no snags to post the link theyve used that way the risks are minimised!
