Default So whos blown or know someone whos blown a diff with a gripper or quaiffe internal?

i'm in the market for a new diff maybe this month but i cant decide which internal to get one with....

from what ive seen, the quaiffe tends to be kinder to the crown gear and pinion, as ive seen some stand still burn outs done with a 420bhp rwd escos and it took that with the brakes appiled slightly and drove away..

ive also the same stunt done with a gripper and the crown gear exploded...

so i'm not sure what to invest in as i want to give lots of abuse and also i'd want it to be good for drifting...

any ideas?

cheers my escos is rwd..

the atb will be easier on the crown wheel as they dont transmit all the power all the time to both wheels.

the plated is the best diff to have.

i got a 71/2 inch in my 3 door quaife and i broke it. it was the pinion tho not diff now fitted uprated crown and pinion and its spot on. quaife say a cosworth wont produce enough power to kill there diffs

the cwp will always be your problem, if you looking to 'burn out' then the gripper will have to spin both wheels, the quaife will allow one wheel to spin, for full bore launches you will not beat a plated.

I've got a gripper I broke the cross shaft in it once in 4years of use. You have to get gripper diffs rebuilt every couple of years as the preload drops off.

Grippers are more lively than Quaifes they drift like a welded diff as they lock up.

Abuse will break either but IMO for fucking about you can't beat a Gripper.

For fu*kin about you cant beat a welded

Did a Gripper, done crown wheels, snapped a pinion in half, the bell that slots through & bolth the drive shaft to, snapped one of them as well. Think I've busted a bust in everyway possible

For fun & cost, you cant beat a welded, if you can live wit the slow speed whell scrub that is

Never broke my Gripper, its been in the car 6yrs and prob done a good 12,000 miles and this year spent a day at pod doing 7k launches on drag radials all day long, sent it to Bara to reset the pre load etc and give it a full check over, Bara stripped it down and all it needed was some new bearing but he said they were not overly worn and that the diff unit was spot on.

Cannot fault it.

Totally agree! Went through a few standard diffs and welded was great fun, until I done the crown and pinion!
