having probs with zetec conversion????HELP
hi evry 1 i currently am putting a 1800 zetec engine in my mk4 escort cabby and have come across a problem . i read somewhere that you can use the 1.8 gearbox but no one says how .they all seem to use the xr3i box but the hole in the clutch is much bigger on the 1.8 engine so tryied to put xr3i clutch n flywheel on but the flywheel bolts are to big so i dont know if i need to drill the holes in the flywheel?? or does any one know how i can mount the 1.8 box .thanks any one who can help
you can either drill out the flywheel bolt holes on the cvh flywheel (only of use if it has the holes in the back for the cps pickup) or use an 1800 zetec flywheel and the cvh clutch.
yeh tried cvh clutch on fly wheel the holes dnt line up so i guess its the mtx75 as the 1800 is the 130 ps.so basically my options are drill the cvh flywheel or buy a flywheel from an ib5 gearbox? whats the differance between the ib5 and mtx75 would i be able to mount the ib5 box easier than the mtx75

mtx75 has another mount on it and also has a lift up style reverse gear, i believe it is the stronger of the two gearbox's but might be harder to fit.

Drill the holes out in the cvh fly wheel its only 1mm i think from memory then your clutch should bolt straight up.
I wouldnt bother with the mtx box as said its a stronger box but then you need to have custom drive shafts made up and new mounts.
The power that your going to be running will be fine for your 3i box mine has been any way
mark.

You will need to use the Zetec flywheel if your cvh flywheel is not an EFI one, if your running std engine management, and then fit a rst clutch (220mm) to the zetec flywheel and bolt up the 3i box or find an IB5 box from a mk5/6 escort that has 4 bolt holes in the front casing like a mk3 gearbox down side is that puts the starter on the back but then you can use a clutch from a mk5/6 escort

Dont forget if you do get the efi flywheel you will still need to make the holes bigger to fit it to the zetec crank and as said above you will need a zetec flywheel off a 115ps 1.8 zetec and not the one you got as it sounds like you have the mtx75.
So your left with 2 options
1 buy a cvh efi flywheel drill holes bigger and use clutch you already have.
2 buy a zetec 115 1.8 flywheel and an rst 220mm clutch.
It really depends on how old your clutch is already as if it was me i would be fitting a new one any way just to save the hassle of fitting one in a few months (yep been down that road before lol)
Did you get the engine from an escort or was it a mondeo?
My mk3 undergoing a dummy blacktop and ib5 box fitting

Only reason i used the ib5 is to put the starter at the back as my manifold is too tight to the block to allow fitment of the starter at the front of the engine but then it was designed for a focus 2.0 blacktop which has the starter at the back any way and i get all the bolt holes using the mk4 box you wont be able to fit 1 bolt at the back where the starter would go as the lug on the engine is not there but dont worry its not a problem i ran like that for 2 years or more without problems.

I really miss that car should never have sold it wife has still not forgiven me lol

Yeh i know i should of kept it thats why im building a better 1 now lol
