Default Help! Lost passport - what can he do?

Brother in law can't find his passport - he goes on holiday Monday.

Apparantly he has phoned someone today who said because it's lost, they won't issue another one Sounds a bit crap to me - anyone know what he can do?

In person at a passport office
The Fast Track and Premium services are only available at a passport office if you make an appointment through the Passport Adviceline on 0870 521 0410. Please note that during periods of peak demand it may not be possible to obtain an appointment at short notice and you should allow up to a week for your appointment date.

The Fast Track service guarantees that you will receive your passport by Secure Delivery one week after you applied (not including bank and public holidays).

The Premium service is a guaranteed one-day service. This service is not available if you are applying for a first passport, or to replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport. You can then collect your passport from your passport office.

You can actually legally hold two passports - might be quicker for him to apply for a second one. I *think* you might even be able to get one same day or next day.

You will need a letter from his employer though along the lines of "pursuant to our business, Mr xxxxx requires a second passport blah blah"

Might be worth a go

Neil.

My m8 lost his and were going on holiday on the 7th of jan. He phoned passport place and said he would have to book an appointment and it would then take 7 days, 5 days if he went down and collected it. Was told only in extreme circamstances they could issue oe on the spot.

Luckily he found his. I do feel for your bro in law must be gutting

i had to go to the gulf(forces) and had to get the passport in a couple of days, called newport explained the situation and had to take proof of my prebooked flightdates and id,i went down the next day, wandered around newport for the day and collected it later that afternoon. cost less than a ton though(but was 3 years ago) see if you can do that? say you booked your holiday, and you have just realised your passport is missing and you need it done the same day and are willing to pay.

I had this a couple of days before goiung out to Spain with work. Whne I said I had lost it they said basically tough titty, they will only replace it on the double if it has expired.

Fortunately I found mine in the end - my old dear had managed to put it inbetween stacks of old books in a bookcase

Tell him to get stripping the house down looking for it!
