Evo 7's
Looking at these now they are becoming very affordable and getting tempted.
Ones like this:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1217078.htm
Few questions for those in the know:
Can you live with them day-to-day? Commute to work is negligable.
Which is the model to go for - 300/40/60 rs, FQ, MR etc?
Are they fairly (I accept it is a turbo'd car!) reliable providing you don't kick the shit out of it everywhere?
What are the major things that go wrong to look out for?
Thankyou please.

Hi Rich,
I,ve had 4 Evos, BUT not a 7, lol, yes you can live with them every day no problem, you need to look out for the AYC check that,s all ok, if you can stretch your budget then i,d personally opt for a 8MR if you can, preferablly the 320.
The 7 RS is the one you ideally want, NO AYC basically it,s a rally car for the road, but limited numbers mean a higher price but worth it imo.
They are pretty hardcore however the RS Version but imo still livable everyday, i mean you had a 3dr FFS....
Very reliable cars, servicing every 4.5k which can be a ballache.
Just check for the usual things mate, damage, gearbox, clutch wear etc etc, find a good one you,ll enjoy it..

Hi Pete,
I did have 3 door but it wasn't for everyday! I would be getting rid of my diesel mondeo and just having 1 car! Insurance should be ok as I've 7yrs protected no claims, pretty good postcode and history on some nippy motors.
I would want to stick really to £10k max, seem to be loads for that sort of money.
Bet could get this with bit of haggling!

How much is the service on average? Do they have any nightmare services like the cambelt on scoobies that cost a fortune?

Rich,
I,d go for the 8 personally, i,m sure the pistons in the 7s were/are quite a weak link form memory.
As for servicing, it can be ££ yes mate, i used to go to Mark @ M.A.D for mine, i know Extreme do deals on servicing to MLR Members, cambelt one would be exspensive yes, as said, having to have them done every 4.5k doesn,t really help...

Thats a evo 8 260... you'd be better off saving up for a proper MR model.

ive only owned 5s and 6s, but they were both fantastic cars but theyd pass anything but a gas station.
make sure the cam chain has been done. the engines are usually bullet proof other than that.
witha big exhaust sytem they can drone abit on the motorway. and at low speed they are very understeery
but they come on to boost lovely and there very usable

lol. fair point! ( evo interior still much nicer thou! )
regarding power levels.... unless your quite unlucky the standard 7 engines should be fine at 360ish bhp. makes for very nice drivable power. ( have the same remap on my 6 )
