thats nothing my Girlfriend (Hairdresser_joy is her forum name) won a sofa, arm chair and footstall thing, its a excellent coindition set that cost the old owner 2000 quid at dfs, its really nice and comfy and guess how much the lucky bugger won it for

2 pounds 20 lol (my pound sign is not wotking on this keyboard lol) the seller actually let us have it for that price to and the funniest bit is she was to shy to hand over such a small amount of money so she paid by pay pal lmao

I use auctionsniper.com - great for unattended bidding I must win 95% of my auctions that way.

It also lets you set up bid groups - i.e. I set up bids on 5 EE PC 901's with a max bid of £220 to go in 5 secs before the end. First three went above £220 before the end so auction sniper didn't bid for me, won the 4th one for £185 and it canceled the fifth one I was looking at - i.e. with a bid group it cancels all the other bids if you win one - well it doesn't cancel them - it just wont bid. All set up in about 5 mins and no need to sit at your comp screen pressing refresh every 10 secs In fact, I won it whilst I was on the bog

new years just gone i got a front/rear rs2000 bumpers and skirts for £50 cos i was the only bugger at 12.30 to be on his phone watching the auction
When i sell something I always set it to end at 8pm on a Sunday night for that very reason. If you look at the ebay site visitor stats it always peaks at 8pm on a Sunday. Other big peak is 10am Saturday - I guess as people are waking up and checking thier auctions.

I've had some right bargains by firing in last second bids on Ebay - it is the only way I buy on there now, I don't see the point in bidding 6 days before the end for the price to be bumped up

Only downside is you have to be prepared to pay a little over the odds sometimes if it is something you want that isn't available else where as your 5 second bid might not be high enough to kill off the competition

If it's not available anywhere else, how can it be "over the odds"? "Over the odds" implies it's available elsewhere for less.

and youre not paying over the odds anyway, you pay what yore prepared to pay. I dont understand itterative bidding, you take a figure, bid that and if the other guys gets it he didnt "beat you" he was just prepared to pay more for it. It's not a complex principle

The other trick is to deliberately misspell an item you want when searching for it - I got a brand new "Westren Digitla Rpator 300gb hrd disc" for £15 doing that RRP is £180.

Well I just put in a good bid and if I win it I do, if someone pays more than I'm prepared to do, that's up to them.

Bid sniping, well it sounds like a good idea, but it's never going to work out long term.

because its costing ebay money !!!

some of the car breakers on here will know about this, one of the auction sites my dad uses is run like ebay well untill recently.

they realised they were loosing money by bid sniping so, what they now do is if someone bids in the last minute they extened the auction for 5, only people that have previously bid are allowed to bid in ''overtime'' meaning its impossible to snipe

it will not be long before ebay implements something along these lines
