Im not interested in what anyone earns or spends, but what do you spend on your car as a percentage of your takehome (after tax) pay?
Please include mods, tyres, tax, insurance and any repayment/hire purchase etc but not fuel.
Just curious!

After bils and what not id say about 50%, of what measly amount is left over, on normal days and 100% when it breaks down which is 50% of the time.

The question cropped up from 2 directions last night:
1)I have a lot of mates doing apprenticships etc and living at home, and what they dont spend on cars they spendon clothes and going outbecause they dont have bills etc and I wondered how many were in the situation that they felt it reasonable to spend 60+% of their money on their car.
2) I see a lot of people on reasonable but not spectacular salaries (uk average is 25k ish) buying new cars. a 30k subaru or evo on 3 months interest free is a sizeable chunk every month and once again I wondered what is percieved as a reasonable amount to be blowing on repayment every month!
Cheers for the replies so far!

If you include things like ring trips and trackdays etc, probably about 50% of takehome which is obvioulsy way more than 50% of disposable income as thats before my mortgage comes out etc, I probably spend 80% of my disposable income on car related things I guess and about 15% more on fuel if you included that too, I spend pennies on anything else other than cars really.

at the moment nothing on the RS infact selling parts from it to continue with the 90% spend on the house, its an uncomfortable situation to say the least. If i dont work 20days a month I struggle to pay for the fuel and food for the following week, what a crap economic situation!
3yrs ago it was about 40% a month on my car while saving for my house deposit, how times change
