Zetec Turbo Engine
Hey guys,
Before you get you beat me and tell me to use the search i will say that i have seen searching and reading for the past two days. All i find are threds detailing bits you would need for a reliable engine and/or guides how to make a nice zetec turbo.
What I am after is a fully build zetec engine that i can pay somone and get it off them. I have a focus turbo with a blown engine and want to buy somthing to simply plop in.
Any idea who will have them off the shelf or can build a reliable one pronto.
I just want somthing to be capable of 300bhp so obviously strong bottom end, but i will be running 250bhp with focus rs turbo and manifold, i have everything else inc intercooler omex management fuel rail injectors ect ect all set on the car. Main note is that i want to be relaible and reasonable with cost, dont want to fork out £££ but round 1k-1.5k ish.
What options do i have? Any suggestions?

To be honest mate I think you'd be doing well to get an engine built on that budget unless your building it yourself.best thing to do would be ring a few tuners and ask them how much

am not really sure. I originally suspected it to be the cylinder head but not i think its the bottom end and turbo aswell. I havent taken it apart as of yet but theres a really lowd knocking noise coming from it.
Either way i got it done from an unreliable place so its always at the back of my head that it could blow up. lol.

I dont know how to investigate further. Spun a shell?lol.

Is it a blacktop? I'll put a guess in right now that one of the main bearings has span causing the crank to knock. Take it to a local specialist and have the engine checked out, is Bolton far (haven't got a clue and cba to look at a map) Chorley Street Garage may be able to help

@Neal - Im putting it into a focus and the standard one is the blacktop i thought to stick to it. Hopefully less changes on the mapping aswell.
I have goten a few quotes and my preferred being around the £3500 mark but a properly built engine drive in drive out jobby mapped.
@Si - Yup blacktop. Is there a way i can see it. Removing the sump or anything?
Bolton being aprox 50miles away.

I get ya now, makes sense.
Where did you get the quotes from? What spec?
£3500 seems more reasonable than £1500...i dare say it can be done cheap as chips, but if you are hoping for around 300, or at least 300bhp at at later date it would need some decent bits. Reading that you have intercooler and management gives you a good start and saves outlaying more cash!
Might be worth a call to Gordon at S.R.M.C. 07979005530
I know he is busy, but he built my Silvertop when i was with him, seems strong so far, just upping the boost and making tweaks with every trackday it does.

interesting with the 2.1 zetec, i did actually see that in the for sale section but didnt bother as its a silver top. What is he asking out of interest?
Thanks Woolford mate, but i have JE pistons and rods in my current blown engine (seemed ok lol) and a spare RS piston rod set laying around somewhere aswell.
@bazzel - i cant seem to find one at that price, Dealers are charging way more then that for a complete engine.

Oh, and you can check the main caps your self. Get a mechanic there with you. If the cranks duff go and pull one out of any Zetec E (NOT SE) engine out of the scrap yard.

heavy scoring (use a plastigauge to double check), if your going to junk the engine might be worth just giving it a check. By the sounds of it your not confident in the person that built the engine.
Edited to say: Make sure you've got a mechanic mate or someone else with you! Is the engine out of the car?

i think he was looking at £4000/£5000 for the whole lot , he said that the turbo cost over 1k alone so its not a bad deal , all i would say is a custom inlet £650 (area six which i can get for you ) and a big valve head and your easily talking of a 400+ bhp engine. just remember one thing is that ian engines hold most of the records set from 5 years + ago and still yet to be beaten and also his custom service is top , if you brought this i can honestly say that he would look after you and offer any advice etc and would most probably offer you 12 months warranty as its not been used.

i will be going with the msd, at least that way i dont have to do any extra runing around.
Only thing am thinking is what to do for the turbo. Am going to be skint after the build so wil have to stay with the t25 or get a cheapish focus rs joby n manifold and aim for a moderate 250-270bhp.
