Yes it is worth the wait. I had the beta, and now have the RC, and I cannot fault it. I also run dual boot XP, but NEVER have to use it, with the exception of printing (but that is HP who need to pull their finger out and sort a driver out, not microsoft)

Vista was too memory dependant i beleive. Among other problems of course.

You always have to confirm everything in vista, People hated that from the off. I switched from xp to vista within a week of it coming out and just got on with it but its been so unreliable.

I use xp based machines every day and they work well because they are established and have a lot of support, There has been update after update which proves it was never a good piece of software to start with but has grown into one.

If confidence can be rebuilt with windows 7 its possible the same will happen.

Its very rarely the printing companies that need to pull the finger out, I work very closely with all the major printing companies including HP and its normally due to the driver needing to be approved (signed) by microsoft.

Theres always a queue lol.

In Vista/Windows 7 go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Snipping Tool. So much better than the print screen button. make sure you save your captures as png for better image quality

http://www.uxpassion.com/2008/10/new...scenic-ribbon/ and you can see some screen shots of Windows 7

Don't wait.

You can buy a good laptop now, download Windows 7 for free from Microsoft and use it until June 2010. Once you get to that date, either buy Windows 7 or shove your Vista disk back in

Windows 7 is leaps and bounds over Vista

Is there anything that doesnt work etc? like certain sound cards or graphics cards? or something that you just cant get to work? i.e webcams and such? i remember when i installed vista and i couldnt use my webcam because there wasnt a driver for it, and im talking about 10months after release

I want to install 7 but i dont want to install it if im going to find software/hardware that doesnt work, ill be very pissed off if ive got to reinstall xp AGAIN.

My concern of buying a laptop now is drivers. Will all the installed hardware work straight away?

On my first laptop Vista was an absolute nightmare.......... Constant issues... But it turns out 1Gig of Ram isn't enough to run vista and surf the web for porn......

New laptop has 4 gig of Ram, thats 1 for vista and 3 for porn and it's great! No problems at all! It even plays all my games and so on! If 7 is better than Vista, then I'll be getting a copy!

After further investigation (ie getting off my arse and stopping being lazy) I correct myself.

My printer is on the network, although I couldnt install it from the HP 6100 driver I downloaded, Windows did detect it over the network, and install the driver automatically when I accessed it via control panel

Jobs a good 'un, cheers to this thread, and Fletch, for getting me to sort it, I now 100% dont need to ever use XP again

I must say it looks very nice in that screen shot above

Do we have any ideas how much the full thing is likely to cost when its out? i know theres going to be like 2-3 different ones like there was with vista.

I did hear on the grapevine that its going to be alot less than previous versions of windows, so we'll see wont we

Windows 7 came out on a special pre order the start of July, the Home Edition was costing £50 and around £70 -£80 for Professional. Its now £70 for Home Edition and £150 for Pro and Ultimate is £160-170ish

I have an MSDN account and have been running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Retail (MSDN) for the past month (we get it a couple of months earlier than general release...) with absolutely no problems whatsoever. If you are going to download it, look for build 7600, not 7100 (RC1). 7600 is the RTM (released to manufacturers) final finished version. You will have 28 days to authenticate it (enter a serial) or 120 days if you re-arm (google it). You can try it out and see if it suits you...

It is faster than XP or Vista.
It is prettier than XP or Vista.

It has never BSOD on my system, and all my hardware runs perfectly.

Try it. If you don't like it, you can always go for XP (try to avoid Vista if possible)
