Is it worth waiting for Windows 7?
I'm looking to buy a laptop, but with Windows 7 coming out is it worth buying a laptop now or waiting?
Thanks for any help.

I went into Curry's and saw an HP DV3-2050, but they said it will not come with a Windows 7 upgrade. Apparently only PC World are the place to get an upgrade.

I know its worth avoiding vista.
So, you either insist on XP or wait for 7.
OEMs will probably try and flog you Vista because they've got lots of copies and no bugger wants it.

My next question is: will laptops in shops now drop in price when Windows 7 is launched or will new stock comeout? Don't wanna buy a decent spec laptop for Ł500 for it to drop in a month or better spec for same price.

I'm going to leave upgrading to 7 for atleast 6 months after it's launched - that way they might have sorted out compatability issues, driver flaws, system instabilities and.. oh wait, it's microsoft, they'll never fix them..
From what i've seen of windows 7, it's very 'pretty' but other than that it doesn't look that special.

Its not really worth waiting for, as you can download Release Candidate from MS that runs out in June 2010, if your anything like me youll have upgraded your laptop/pc by that date anyway.

deffo worth waiting for- I have release candidate to try it from microsoft on a dual boot pc with xp.
i've completely forgotten about xp as windows 7 on my relatively old pc runs that much quicker on it and looks so much better, no crashes or critical errors yet- it has failed to boot once but then it went into a startup recovery mode- fixed itself than booted up fine

You'd be suprised then, even the first public beta release was pretty solid. I've had my head stuck inside 7 for the last 18 months and its been a breath of fresh air.
Microsoft have pulled their finger out this time, they just want to forget that Vista ever happened. Although they are going to have a real challenge this time round, business doesn't want to touch 7 after the Vista fiasco. It will take time to heal those wounds lol.
I've thrown everything at 7 and so far its just played ball. Vista was a nightmare, one I never want to go through again.
7 is what Vista should have been, 7 is a genuinely good replacement for XP.

Windows 7 definately sounds worth waiting for. My problem is I need a laptop asap and not sure if I can wait another month!
If I can find a screen for my old Philips Freevents X52 laptop I will wait!
Thanks for the replies

I use my machines for business use only, and in all honesty i tryed the XP downgrade which came with the laptop, and it failed to allow me to install core software and I was forced into using Vista.
I can honestly say I would expect more performance from a lower spec laptop running XP than I get from this laptop running Vista - I am one of the many extremely disapointed Vista Business Users.
I will be upgrading my laptop for hte 2nd time inside a year after 7 is released, and hope to gain the performance the new machine will bring

Why wait? I've been running windows 7 on all my machines (except my EEE PC) since 4th May.
I never had a problem with Vista and I liked it - stable for me with good performance. However, even saying that, Win 7 is a deffinate upgrade - as others have said - it's the OS Vista should have been.
It's still got a way to go until it's as good as AmigaOS though :-P

whats the betting there will be loads of compatability issues between old versions of microsoft office packages and windows 7, effectively forcing you to buy the latest office package??? My office 2003 really didnt like vista despite the so called patches. I really dont want to buy the new office package as the new office products do NOTHING new that i cant already do on office 2003 as a home/student user.

windows 7 is a modified version of vista if you use http://www.vlite.net/ you can modify vista yourself to work just the same as windows 7 if not better
