Default Advice Please ... Insurance Possibly Lost My Certificates

hi all

quick q

you know when you insure a car that has certificates required as proof of installation for a cat 1 or 2 whatever the case maybe.

I sent these in and few days later get a letter back saying thanks etc, your policy has been updated please find enclosed your certificate back etc, only thing is ... its NOT in there.

Ring them up and say and there like oh ... umm give it a week see if it comes seperatly if not call back, so today i call back and they said they will pass the query to the admin dept now as thats where they go to. I said in short if i go to sell the car which iam looking to do anyhow in due course, without that certificate its not going to help really and an insurance company wont take a PHOTOCOPY will they so i said for them to get it sorted pronto

i am however going to call them back later when get in from work and demand more and quicker and i wanted your thoughts on it and if i am in my right to say i dont want "copies" because i think well whats a copy .... i want genuine certificates, if they got my details of it surely they can re-issue fresh certificates

i thankfully took my own photocopies of them before sending but its not the point.

Please advise

You can pay a fee (usually 5-10 quid) to the original installer to reissue a certificate.

if you can't get a reissue from the original installer then you can get it re-certified by any approved installer, i had one done a few months back, cost Ł35 quid to have it done and a new certificate was provided, just tell your insurers as they lost it they are paying for it.

As said down to the people who lost it, but all the installs are recorded on a thatcham database, so will no doubt be able to get copy from them for a small fee.
