I saw some pics of an exploration BP drilling rig that was looking for gas off Vietnam I think, when the roof of the gas chamber it was drilling into callapsed/burst, sending millions of litres of gas to the surface!

The pic looked like the rig was in the middle of a jucuzzi.

I commented on how pretty the picture was, when the bloke standing next to me explained how the rig was almost sunk due to the ratio of water/gas being too much in the gasses favour nearly causing the rig to sink!

The pictures got to be on thenet somewhere!

**EDIT** Blimey its on youtube!

Thats a blow out and would happen if your drilling fluid isn't heavy enough to hold back the downhole pressure.

Scary.

i worked beside this in verolme botlek yard in rotterdam. the scale of stuff like this is amazing. the smallest hook at the end of the crane jib is about the size of a steel shipping container.i cant get my head around how something like this floats and doesnt tip over when lifting huge loads

evening all, sorry no pics, its dark again, the weather has eased off a tad and we have taken on water ballast to sink the rig down so its not rolling to much, the engines were getting starved of cooling water when the pontoon was lifting clear of the water. so its not bad will get some pics at day break
