Default Zetec-s engine conversion

My mate has a 2002 Fiesta Zetec-S and wants a bit more power. He was wondering if a 2.0 Zetec would go straight in? If not what other engines will fit nicely and give good power gains? He's not keen on the 1.7 Puma conversion which I suggested to him.

Any help is appreciated

Cheers

Drop in a 2.0L on bodies... we do them for £2,300... New engine, jenvies, ECU all ready to run at 170BHP Add some cams and you get 195

2.0 duratec is a better option as found in the Fiesta St.

OC Motorsport is who he wants to speak to. Ollie has his own green Duratec on Titan Roller Barrels ZS. Was in a video the other day going around Brands Hatch, thread starter was Incubus iirc.

Thanks, he wants to do it himself as a kind of project. Would an ST170 engine go straight in?

No engines other than the 1.7 puma engine (or the 1.6/1.4/1.25) go straight in, all other conversions require different mounts/gearboxes/wiring looms etc.

Easy ish, as the inlet/exhaust are the other way round you will need a lot of bits to make it work. Could be worth perhaps getting a mk3 zetec (xr2i) for a donor car?

Well it depends on what you want to ultimately use.

The XR2i, I would only get the 1800RS, and is because it has silvertop mounts etc, but note that the silvertop mounts do differ from blacktop (and indeed ST170) mounts.

Budgetwise, for something lie, this, we would quote £4,500 for installation and mapping of a Zetec 170 pack, but thats obviosuly garage rates. On your own your looking at maybe 4 options:

Duratec HE:
Mounts *may* be similar as the engine is still reversed, and being basically a Mazda should be ok with the fezzy mounts IIRC

Zetec Black:
Good range, 1.8/1.8/2.0
Good engines, about £2.5K would see TBs, ECU and a new block (thats our price, OMEX engine, £4,300). Shares the camcvoer style end mounts as your current motor.

Zetec Silver:
Probably not worth doing, mounts would be interesting, being the fezzy has engine end mounts not back block mounts

Puma 1.7:
A lot of money for not much of a jump, maybe 145/150 after you have TBd it. Drop straight in IIRC

CVH Turbo
Always fun, mainly surpaassed by the ZT, mountings may be interesting as uses block mounts.

ZT:
The way to do it, budget £5k by the time you have got it all mapped up, and thats doing it cheaply I would of thought.

Hope that helps, depends on what power your after and your budget really..

cheaper to tune it

Decent manifold and exhaust, standard inlet, shawspeed ss4 cams and uprated rodbolts ( again from shawspeed ) and valve springs will see 150bhp once mapped

proven and cheaper than buggering around putting in a heavier engine

restrictions on the standard engine are ehxhaust manifolding and cams/cam timing to meet emmissions regulations for new engines......simply knocking the exhaust cam back by 10 degrees on a standard car with a decent manifold will take it close to 125 bhp

ps, the only gearbox that works on a zetec-e into fiesta would be the rs1800/16v xr2i ib5 box

utter PITA to transplant for very few gains unless you go turbo

Shawspeed can offer various specs to over 200bhp for the 1.6.

It's used in many caterhams/westfields from the factory as it's light, revvy and very very tuneable

Its cams and breathing that help on these. tbs with the right exhaust and cams and the obligatory decent exhaust/manifold will see closer to 200.

seen plenty of them

Probably with using 1.7 is the lack of off the shelf parts such as forged rods and pistons.

They have a good crank as standard, but 1.6 crank will take 9k all day.

Cheaper to tune the 1.6 if going to a decent S1600ish spec.
