but

what you have to remember is that people on the internet aren't real, when you meet them in the flesh, in person, talk to them and listen to their mannerisms and get to know them in real life, then you get to meet them properly

the internet is just a collection of pixels on a screen in front of you, not some sort of magic to find someone compatabile with you who will answer everything and be your bestest best mate

if you think of it like that you find that you see life much simpler

if these points have already been raised then you'll have to help me find them

Thats the power of the internet tbh. Where i can help i will, and im sure others will do as well. Even though im a mod on here there genuinely is No clickiness as i annoy others lol who are in same position. I wouldnt take it as personal what so ever.

There are some really great guys on here, but with holidays and job commitments etc maybe cant reply as soon as they want to. Dont take it personally. Its tthe net and if its a genuine car issue then immediatley contact a car tuner/supplier etc

Incidentally, I think that rather than people feeling 'uncool', or 'left out' isn't quite what the topic is getting at.

More perhaps that some people feel that when they post a tech question, or some pictures of their car, that it isn't acknowledged or responded to by many, simply because they're not part of the 'clique'.

And that, to be honest, seems true in general terms. This is a car forum at the end of the day, so talking about cars, be it problem solving, or showing off your motor, should be where its at, whether the person has 10 posts, or 10,000

My 2p on the matter, in short, is thus...

Some people will get more attention in their threads than others. Reasons include:

-OP has more friends and acquaintances on here than others. People who have "been around" shows, events, meets, and generally socialising with other members. Just like in "real life", some people will know more people than others, and as such, will be drawn to click on their threads more than others. If they put the effort in, they expectedly should reap the benefits.

-OP stands out from the majority. A well known tuner, owner of a well known car, staff member, or yes a female member in a 95+% male-dominated zone are all going to get more hits than Joe Average. There's nothing wrong with appreciating a person, their work, their car, their contribution or whatever. Some people just have to jump in and label every case of this is arselicking. Which is sad really.

-Their questions are simpler than others. Without wanting to sound disrespectful, not many female members are going to ask many in-depth techy questions. Even the most clued-up ones. So are likely to get more answers than some chap asking a question about sump baffles or ACT's.

-Arselickery. Despite my argument that not every compliment paid to Martin Hadland, Maria, Stu, Andrew Gallacher or whoever shouldn't be stamped upon as arselicking, a percentage still is, which increases the total.

In terms of "cliques". Yes, of course some people who know other people are going to get on, and obviously be associated as such. But I fail to see any real "cliquiness" on here, especially not compared to other forums! Until around the middle of 2006 it was VERY cliquey, and off-putting to those outside the hierarchy and far away from the "in-crowd", like myself. But now it's quite the opposite IMO, and really don't see an "in-crowd" any more.

Only my 2p for what it's worth, and don't care who agrees or disagrees tbh!

I don't believe there's a clique, and I'm certainly not part of one.

I browsed this site from pretty much day one, but didn't sign up for years afterwards because I was told by people on other forums I'd never fit in, and few would even acknowledge me because I didn't have an RS or Cosworth blah blah blah. In the end I thought fuck it and signed up, and for quite a while I certainly didn't feel particularly welcome, and only really used to browse to look at and appreciate the cars and what the "names" were discussing. Didn't really try and make much of an input. In more recent times, the place has changed dramatically, and virtually everyone who I saw as part of the "in-crowd" have fucked off, and the place has changed for the better. For me anyway.

this was my point about actually meeting peole in real life so you could discuss and conect with the "real" world rather than the "Virtual" one

i think the tuners do get a lot of respect here beause they know what they are on about, and the traders get a bit of stick for contantly shilling their wares while moaning abou thte cost of running a business (not that i've got anything against them, just that you don't hear the tuners giving the same sob storys) and the fems are just getting the attention ebcause the blokes want them to their tits out

some questions are just easier to answer or have more peole intrested in the answers, asking how to replace the needle on the clocks isn't nearly as interesting as telling peole about the veyron you've just toasted is it

nothing wrong with bigging someone up, i met martin about 10 years ago and thought he was a boring git, but after meeting him for "real" he's a really nice chap, same with rod, chip, sheady, charlie, jade, forignrrs, xian, benni but to name a efw, even rainbird's quiet cool when you get past the shades and the 70's cardigan s it goes back to your first point about meeting people for real

thing is, if you are now an accepted "face" you don't see the cliqueness that is much more apparent to a newbie, even though it's not the actual being of having a big clique, just people who've know each other for longer, same as the new kid in school really

Maria - I think that was an over-reaction. You should take it as a compliment and in the humour it was intended. Nobody said a bad word about you - it was the lap-dogs that follow you about and are cringe-worthy at times!

The real arse-lickers on here all seem to be attached to the MAD Camp - or maybe that's just how they come across to me. The only one who doesn't big-up Mark Shead and belittle everyone else is Chip who just comes across as a genuine petrolhead that can appreciate others hard work.

I've never once claimed I give people a lift in the hope that they like me. I can assure you I don't give anyone a lift anywhere in the hope to be liked. You either like me or you don't. It's as simple as that. In actual fact the only people that I'll accept use me a lot are my Family, and I have no reason to want them to like me. After all, they are my so called Family so I've no need to. Not that I need to explain any of this to you, as none of it is revelant to the initial discussion. Being 'Soft' and being 'Confident and Outgoing' are two completely different things.

All I have done is merely voiced my opinion of you and you don't like it. Since I posted my feelings towards you I've already had people on FB and so on send me a link to the thread, laughing in a agreement and slagging you off. There's one difference between me and them, and I'll happily tell you what I think of you where as some won't. This doesn't make me anything other than honest. I think in the future I won't tell you what many are thinking, and I will stick to telling other people what I think of you, you know, behind your back and maybe tag the odd thread with nasty messages like 'Chip Brown Nose' 'Chip on Chips shoulder' and so on. You'd prefer this I suspect.

They mostly grew up/moved on to other things. Tbh the RSbb is probably more focused now than it ever was before Passionford. Having the biggest crowd doesn't always equal the best results.

As for the rest of the posts,we all know who the arse lickers are(who are part of the"clique")....and the contradicting ones,that dig out an ancient post just to re-confirm that they were intially correct about a certain fact etc and want the whole world of passionford to know and want a public appology!...but when its the other way round...a reply like"oh,i wasn't really interested in that,blah,blah" would always spill out

Original post I actually feel was a good question, Ive always been aware of the click that exists. It not a PF thing its a FORD thing.

As I said before, I just ignore it, I come on here to talk cars and share information/advise/experiences about cars (and the odd bit of banter and ramdom stuff like this when im really bored)

All you can do is Either:

Know your in the click
Accept that your probably not and deal with it
or
Assume your somewhere in the middle

Its the internet, thats all dont let it be any more than that!!!!!
