Default Escort rs turbo running costs?

hi, now that i have a years driving under my built i can afford something better than my huge power 1.2 fiesta!
i was looking for a fiesta zetec s, but have seen a escort rs turbo in my price range (2500). i think i might be able to just about insure the beast, but im worried how reliable and therefore how much its gonna cost me to run over the year, for petrol and new bits etc. im not sure if 2500 is enough to get myself a nice, reliable motor.
id love to have it, can anyone help?
here is the link..

Hi mate, 2500 probably wont land you a tip top rst, if you do buy it be prepared to shell out a wee bit because there will always be stuff waiting to bite you somewhere and due to their age rst ownership IS a labour of love so be prepared to get your hands dirty and spend a few quid.

As said in the post above if its your first performance car you probably will give it death (and it will drink like george best) which is fine so long as you can maintain it at the rate it deteriorates however the zetec is probably a better bet if you want hassle free, but despite their critics rst's are superb fun and you will smile!

I spent alot on mines and worked on it almost every other week to keep it tip top.

assuming your going to declare the mods, insurance will pull your pants down.
As said above you can never tell if its going to be a nightmare or not. I bought mine as a "good runner not used and garaged for 6 years"...but i think i would sh*t if i added up the recipts. It still goes on the ramps once or twice a month and its only done 9000miles on its new engine. Defo a labour of love. Not much fun if its your daily hack and need the car when it decides to not work.

If you buy a bad one be prepared for a world of pain as everything can and will go wrong on them.
If you get a good one they are great cars really and really do involve like not many new cars do anymore.
My advice would be to find someone local thats knows rst's and get them to check out any potential purchase- they are cheap to run when working

As said a labour of love, Im on my first escort rs turbo, 5 months in and iv shelled out a lot of cash, and iv done all the work my self!
running cost, it'll drinks more than George Best, she is 190bhp and i have a big right foot! and insurance is a fair bit even at my age of 23 (do have 6 piont tho!) i pay 800notes fully comp.
they arent a every day car to jump in and go work or down the shops in. i only use mine for fun, to get to work i bmx cause that doesnt cost Ł20 a week in fuel to do 4miles day.
get a Zetec S or something along those line for now and do some saving! Then get one later, when your not so fuss about having to have it off the road alot.

Plenty of decent Zetec S's around, perfect for someone with your experience (not trying to sound patronising) they're quick enough to give you a buzz over a 1.25 and handle really well, but not so quick you'll get into major trouble, perfect stepping stone up from what you're in now.

Get an imperial blue one and you're laughing. Mine will be up for sale soon, never missed a beat in the last 12 months, ran perfectly, good cars

i would go straight for a rs turbo if you want one that much. if you get a zetec s which am sure are great little cars and your driving about and see a nice rst you will wish you bought one instead and will end up getting one anyway.
i had one as a daily runner about 3 yr ago and had no problems with it except the dump valve split. the only downside to it was the shell was just about finished.
i sold it and bought a 1.6 vtec civic and it was so boring in comparison.
