ive started fitting a 6 speed in my car as some of you may know but then realised to pick up the 2 piece shaft and rear starter my breathers are in the way so my newly rebuilt bottom end is no longer required . my question is do i build a blacktop or a silver top? i want to be getting around 400bhp on a gt30 and keeping my exhaust manifold with turbo over the gearbox etc. would i be better using a blacktop with double valve springs and solid lifters? what engine is better? cheers peeps

Dont think black top Zetec have double valve springs as standard, but the valves are slightly bigger.

thanks, im aware of that and know (well atleast think mods have to be done to take them?) but looking for the pros and cons to both?

Ok no probs.

From what ive read, the silver top bottom end is stronger and the black top head is slightly better, thats why iam using both.

thats what id heard but was keen to know pro's and cons to each lol.

the blacktop is a far better engine with a much better head and a better rod ratio ,a standard head and cams would see 400hp on a gt30

id be using the farndon rods i already have in whichever i chose and likelyness being block would be a silvertop tbh as i have a spare
