no its locked unfortunately!! it could be easily "unlocked" . Its been reported to the council.

Ive been to stoke before but not lived here permenantly! only a few weeks here and there. At the time i moved it was perfect for the commute in the navy as its middle of the country between Glasgow, plymouth, portsmouth and London. I couldnt afford to move away when i left navy not to mention no mortgage company would allow me to swap mortgage to a new place on the terms i had while i was earning zero!!

Youd need to be running wooden bar with all your wieght on across the ones of the wall to bend them down as they are epoxied on with tons of the glue to give a deliberate "flex" so they dont come brittle and snap off!! with pliers the pin snaps off/bends before the whole thing comes off!! The ones on the gate have been in permenant damp on the wood for months as it has dried out yet they still dont come off easy!!!

The door trap has been designed so you cant pick off the pins and you cant reach in and rip it off as its well secured yet flexible enough for any hooks to slide off!

Iron bar versus 3 or 4 people still means im going down eventually!! And i dont like those odds!!! Im not Steven Segal Even if i had firearms to hand id still be unable to use them near my house as youd just get caught!! I dont have the "upper hand" opening a front door to the unknown, where as if i catch them out the back, i am armed and have the element of surprise and then its a fair fight and worth the risk!

double glazing and toughened outer glass!! plus the fact the keys are there when im in the house so id like to think i would hear someone repeatedly smashing the door to break the glass and be able to respond with ease!!

I'd try and find out who they are.

Then catch one out some night and muller them with something heavy.

Go home, dump clothes have a few showers, dump weapon - job jobbed.

Jesus Warren, dunno what to say other than gutted that you've managed to get yourself on the housing ladder (especially considering the probs you have described a couple of years ago), and now have to put up with this shit, not feeeling safe in your own gaff!

Do your neighbours suffer similar problems? If so perhaps you could all approach the police/council/local paper and make a lot of noise until something is done?

yes and no. theyve had a few burglaries over the years, but to be frank, most of them dont have much worth nicking in the car department! Theres not many nice cars about as there isnt much money about so my car stands out!! As does my house as its had a lot of money spent on it over last couple years haveing been totally modernised and redone and im sure that hasnt gone unnoticed by certain undesirables!! The house had an attempted break in while it was empty after id fitted new kitchen and was waiting to move in. Although id like to think they arent after robbing fixtures and fittings as they are no longer new items! And it doesnt help im a security guard in the closest shopping centre so theres more reason to be targetted!!

So why not move...?

Sorry, couldn't help myself, what you could try is what Macauly Culkin did on home alone, play a video fo gunshots and two men arguing, saying get the fuck out etc.

Might work?

I cant be arsed with the quotes now but chip thats my plan.one at a time.I am really local to Warren.
Warren you need my number, you may not like who turns up (chavs) in your opinion but some people who i associate with have done 4,5 years for wounding and things so a quick fuck off or we will be be back 10 fold will be sufficient for most of them.It may cost you some beer for a simple fix in most cases.I will just simply send ,sorry ask a knocker to go up the road, first one out gets sparked.Simple,I am losing my rag for you.You dont need to move and no one else is the wiser.

Personally in life i have learnt that when you get people to do things for you, people are not scared of you, but of your "friends". Then they find out through mates mates uncles cousins that you paid them, and all respect vanishes. Then they get their revenge........ ON YOU.

Personally be passive, get a big dog, a dog is a mans best friend anyway. You dont even need an agressive one, just one with a mighty bark!!

Shitty death I can't believe you have to put up with this.
I really would invest in CCTV.

This gets my vote for thread of the year so far!!! Loving the pictures, security measures etc and also the ever so slightly off the wall suggestions! Great read!

I can't believe a lot about whats happening to you, but mostly that someone tried to break into your hourse at 9pm! The brasen cheek of it! They might have done the decent thing and waited till the dead of night like proper crims! It does sound like you're receiving an abnormal amount of attention in that house mate, and as you said being previously owned by a dealer probably has a lot to do with that. I know you said the job centre is only round the corner, and it sounds like a dodgy as fook area, but it still seems a bit excessive to just be that to me.

In reality there isn't really a lot you can do that you're not already doing i guess, just secure the house as much as possible, and hide in the corner behind the sofa with all the lights of pretending it's not happening and whispering 'please go awaaaaayy'.

That's what i'd be doing anyway!

9pm is quite late these days. A lot of burglarys are done during day when owners are at work. I can only presume they are reaching in the door for keys in the knowledge i am in the house so in that sense time doesnt matter as they are obviously brazen enough!!!

Lots of burglars are very brazen these days. theres been burglarys where people have done total daylight burglarys with a van out front despite members of the public being around. How many people would question what looks like a house move or what looks like a security engineer fiddling with an alarm box etc??

Have you thought about using a baby monitor? Could hide it outside the front door, maybe up in the porch, or you could hide it in your garage?

So you could hear when people are at the front door/garage door, trying to reach in or picking the lock etc.

this may seem bizarre but fit the door the wrong way around with a dummy handle on the outside, they will then be forcing the wrong part of the door (the end thats stuck to the frame) nobody in their right mind would think the door is hinged on the side the handle is on particularly not a chav in the wee hours of the morning

is do-able but would take up a considerable amount of time

A lot of the time down in and around london they dont bother kicking the door in, they just knock, then when you answer they pull a blade or a shooter on you.
They WANT you to be in when they rob you as it means you can show them where the valuables are (well you will once they put a knife to your childs throat etc)

sneyd isnt that close to me, but stoke has quite a few dumps in it to be fair!!!! its quite a big city!

found this outside my house:

Kind of sums up the area really theres always some dogshit somewhere on the short section of my street!! No fucking need for it at all, just like no need for the ASBO teens and antisocial behaviour, burglarys etc etc. The fundamental problem is these scum just dont give a shit!

I bet theyd give a shit if your dog dumped on thier door step, but being inherently selfish they cant see how that would be for others, nor do they care.

true rob

Ive been asked if i want to do some door work in Hanley no thanks!!

problem is that theres now so many "disadvantaged poor hard dumb by criminals/CHAVs" in the stoke on trent area now that with the lack of council houses, it was only a matter of time before they spread to all areas of the city.

These "trouble famiies" quickly get banned from council and housing association places so they either end up in the YMCA or similar or private landlords who dont know what they are in for!!! which means with private landlords in all sections of the city means nice areas can be ruined overnight by a scum family moving in or coming from a nieghbouring place.

doesnt help that this is a city devoid of hope now!! there was little hope before the recession let alone now!! almost all the traditional industrys have dried up and died yet stoke council has done little to help new investment and has actively discouraged it with some stupid environmental policys over warehouses so called blotting the horizon quite how a warehouse can ruin the look of a slag heap or marl hole i dont know And lets not even get into council corruption and discouragement of business expansion where the council wont get a revenue. for example the shopping centre i work at has bought wasteland to extend the car park yet repeatedly had it refused for no good reason. The only reason they could give was environmental so yeah its environmentally friendly to have cars sat in ques all day saturday polluting while they wait for a space to park!! doesnt take a rocket science to work out that more spaces means less pollution due to better traffic management and less ques the real reason they wont let it be built is because this car park already directly competes with and undercuts the council owned ones and with extra spaces would leave them out of pocket!!!!

only 48% people here get 5 GCSEs which is the minimum standard. and even if you do well the colleges are crowded and theres very high unemployment, low wages, not many jobs and a lot of people with lots of skills/experience. So for the kids theres no point in thier eyes in bothering if theres no future!! very low aspirations here!!! for most kids, whats the point in a minimum wage job when you can get just as much money on the dole if you play the system as well as being better off if you do a bit of dealing or cash in hand work on the side!!

currently now only the 2nd highest teen pregnancy rate in UK but what is unique to stoke compared to ANY UK city is the main reason for teen pregnancy being that the girls WANTED to get pregnant!!! where as the rest of the big citys in UK the main reason listed is accident/got drunk etc. (this is from the surveys done during maternity screening etc).

Manchester is great. There are few problem areas in the centre. But you'll have a very safe night out, and loads of good transport.
