Default Operation Spike Shield

A little while after moving into my house I instigated "Operation Spike Shield" to upgrade the perimeter security incase someone should try and break in.

Over the weekend i heard my garage door silent alarm go off so as per my plans I armed myself prior to checking out the rear windows that oversee the garage. As i did so i heard a scream and saw what appeared to be a couple of CHAV's running off to the rear and down the side alley...

Further investigation revealed that no access had been gained on my garage (my alarm is deliberately sensitive so i know how often people try the door etc) but damage was found on my "spike shield" defence system which had successfully repulsed the attack but did suffer some collateral damage.

You can clearly see the damage here where theyve tried to climb over the gate:

Hopefully they are in serious pain as a result!!

It was quickly repaired:

More worryingly, in the morning i found damage to my front door frame where they have tried to force the door with a crowbar or similar:

Obviously being a modern door with steel reinforced frame it held fine (im sure youve all seen police programs and the high amount of strikes needed with the "big red key"). So it seems theyve tried a two pronged attack.

So this leaves me with a dilema.... Obviously from being unable to open front door they will know that its a modern high security UPVC door rather than the earlier single lock ones. So the next step is for them to return with tools to take down a modern door in the near future. But i cant think of anything to do to reinforce the door and frame it self unless i have it lined with steel sheet on the inside. Oviously that is a bit excessive.....

So what should be the next step to keep ahead of them?? Obviously i need to raise the stakes to match and preferably beat the threat.

Stick a massive bit of wood like a fence post wedged against the door like the dealers have on all police tv programs

the woods a good idea!!

The rest need to be realistic they are obviously serious about getting in to attack the front door as its not a quiet road and is a main throughfare for pedestrians at all hours.

A cattle fence.

it gives you a big wake up call anyways. i found out when i touched one in ireland

if you spend ore you can get ones with adjustable voltage

If you mount one just below the top of your fence you can have strands of wire coming off it (think like cb aerials, the way they move) and you cant even grab them then to push them out of the way. inpenetrable electric fence

Are they lookin for the car keys

Seen your Puma maybe and want it

Police an option? Ya might be stabbed in your bed next time

Dealer-ish security door is a stop gap cos unless the local police know ya and why you have it cos otherwise you'll be under surveillance as a dealer before you know it

And there's still windows in the house..sounds like your fairly vulnerable..but aren't you ex services?? Few big mates hangin round could work wonders

buy a proper pellet/BB gun and make a show of testing it outside your door maybe?

I don't know but I'll tell you this you've probably seen the cunts regularly that done that to your door-You'll have to do something

Be aware, if the chavvy buggers who were trying it on decide to sue you, they would be within their 'rights'

If you put spikes, electrical wires or barbed wire on property in a position where it potentially could harm someone (even though they deserve it and shouldnt have been climbing your fence) you should display the appropriate warning sign.

I got this advice from a solicitor mate when I was looking at putting spike strips and electrical fencing along the edge of my fence after having stuff nicked from the garden.

Probably keys as you say. Ive tried reporting such suspicious activity before and theres no follow up. Once they sent a cop car around about an hour later Nothing they can do anyway! not like they are going to watch my house!!

Surveillance would be good No one could break in then!!

Its typical modern double glazing.. bricking up the windows is not realistic really for a house I dont have loads of big mates living local who i can have hanging around!! Yes im ex-forces but its not like ive got a personal arsenal of assault rifles hanging round, or claymore mines etc!!

And get rapidly arrested as armed response come along following reports of an armed man in the street Plus BB guns are plastic toys which wont deter criminals!! BB guns only seem to scare the ignorant public.

Only real guns scare criminals as the bullets fly past thier head. anyone can wave a gun about. That dont scare anyone these days unless theres real bullets and thats not realistic as a civilian here

Im trying to avoid going on a anti-criminal rampage in my local community as i have to live here. Unfortunately i can no longer go on rampage then go back to the security of Base behind barbed wire fences and armed guards....

its a pretty unique car for the area so easily recognisable, plus with the job centre one street away, the area is full of skanky criminal scum all day long probably scoping the area while they wait for signing on time! So its highly likely someone in the criminal world will have seen me returning home/leaving home one day as theres no secret back routes to my house.

plus the house used to be a dealers houses before the previous tenants got evicted and i bought the place so its probably a known address to most the scumbags so theyll maybe be interested to know who now lives there, what they got etc.

Is the car kept in a garage at your house? Might be worth moving it and storing it at a mates for a couple of weeks? Providing the garage doesn't give access to your house and there is nothing worse nicking in it you could leave it open.... They may think you have got rid of the car and lose interest.

The garage is pretty secure with multiple locks and alarm sensors and certain other "security measures" plus my car is broken down at moment If im not in the car and out the house i have keys and ECU with me and its not possible to get a tow truck to my garage let alone tow it on full lock down the very narrow passageway on lock without totally destroying it in the process!

I doubt even a transit recovery with a speclift could get down this alley:

So theyd have to strip it of parts in situ.

Im not enjoying the battle as my property and possessions are at risk of being stolen!!!

As i said, if i was still living on base then i would have no problem with declaring my own personal crusade against the local criminal scum as i would have the safety of my secure base to return to every night whereas i have to live here so i dont want to be targetted by the scum bags yet i need to protect my possessions so i need to find a middle ground.

I see your point-I've looked at a few pics of the car and it looks awesome BUT is it worth having your keys taken from INSIDE your house?

FWIW I doubt its local chavvy cunts messing with your house(ie wedging your door) I'd put money on it being professional thieves who know what your Puma/parts value is

I'm not havin a dig at you thats just my opinion.

how do you sleep then?? no matter where you live these days the risk of home invasions for keys is increasing rapidly. doesnt matter if its a posh area.

I dont think its unreasonable to be able to live reasonably safe in the knowledge you wont be burgled or if you do its a rare thing!! When i lived in london i was burgled 3 times in 8 months and while here had my old car broke into twice in 3 months. In my opinion thats excessive amount of crime, especially considering the local cops crime statistics for my nieghbourhood are low for car crime and burglary and show peaks mostly for antisocial behaviour.

Replace the drawing pins with razor blades, then take the blood soaked blades to the police for dna testing.

with regards to BB/Airsoft...... i nearly got arrested after a neighbour seen me lift a Ł1300 airsoft sniper rifle i was keeping for a mate in my lockup for the week while he was on holiday and builders were working on the house..... she was about to phone the rozzers on me until i explained that:

1) i have a firearms licence to permit having a gun
2) its for airsoft which i take part in
3) the working parts and battery were not there
4) she shouldnt be looking into my garage every hour of the fooking day when i go over, like she has for the past 5 months since moving in there!

baby moniters are a cheap way of listening out for peaple at the having a go doors, also the metal dog or animal cage doors work well fixed into the wall behind the main doors.the cops trying to get in a mate of mines house were scratching their heads for ages.

bloke i know is into all this sort of stuff like shotgun cartridges on his shed door thatgo off if you try it on and trip wire and the obligatory cctv.
he is a gun dealer too and has the old bill come round regularly for inspections and stuff. they arn't too happy with his collection of japanese swords either.

the best one he told me about was the neat square hole in the ground with broken bottles, sauce jars, and very sharp glass in that he knows where it is but thevin twat doesn't,he has heard someone go down it at night screaming and bleeding with claret all over the place.

he lives on a estate where people have very nice front gardens and stuff and noticed some cunt was robbin his flowers so set a trap, few weeks go by and he hears some fucker screaming again and they have cut themselves on his flower and bush security device

You want barbed fishing hooks, they won't be able to escape then, they will be stuck on the wall, with the option of staying there until you come to get them down with the aid of a blowtorch and nail gun, or rip themselves to pieces pulling out the barbs .... For added effect cover them with an arsnic/lead based paint

for the house warren, you want a pair of dobermans, proper guard dogs, my mates boss has 2, doesn't even lock his house when they are in, they've seen off anyone thats not welcome, plus if you are in, they will hear anything before you will, so they will get you up if anything is wrong.

and get some cctv up, and wire it in to a hard drive recorder, easy to maintain then instead of swapping tapes all the time, then at least you can see who it is and pass it on to plod as evidence

problem with massive glass filled pits in ground is id have to drill through concrete to lay it and thats definitley classed as laying booby traps as its within the perimiter rather than perimiter protection.

Dogs arent practical for the size of the house really. plus im not a fan of dogs wouldnt want to come home one day and the dogs decided hes boss now!!!

Wont CCTV attract more attention?? plus these days you cant have covert CCTV legally and are required to put up those fucking gay homo data protection signs!!!

How about one of the security posts that folds into the floor inside the garage so they can't get the car out but can't see it from the outside either to attract attention. And also, one inside the house behind the front door will stop it opening!

I say good luck to any cunt who actually gets in because if you dont get them on the stairs with the Home Alone stylee paint pot swinging then you'll probably drop a home made atomic bomb on them
