welded diffs?
ive purchased a e36 bmw and stripped it out to track it with a friend but were both liking the idea of abusing it with a bit of drifting etc, ive had a little go of it already but it really needs a lsd so was thinking of welding it as its only a toy but curious of how it will be on a track? cheers

they will throw the back end out more violantly than a lsd or open diff, but once you get used to them they're easy enough to live with,
if anything its low speed that they become hard to live with

what engine is it?
having drivven a 2.0l sierra with welded diff every day for over a year, not once has it stepped out at speed unless provoked, they actually handle very well
throw it into a corner and yes, the rear will more than likely break away, but only when you make it.
not once did it do it when i wasnt expecting it
and i dont hang about either

For TRACK DAYS, I would say NO, it WILL promote understeer when turning into corners, making only one option reasonably viable: drift it (or handle shite!). Not always welcome on track days..... well, never welcome, lets be honest.
For FUN. hell yeah!!! E30's are big fun with a (MIG Spec) diff, just make sure you always call it a MIG spec/UPRATED () diff

its only a 320, stripped it out bare, no dash or anything, not expecting it to be super quick but with half a transit load of heavy interior gone i was hoping it would feel ok?

pmsl, yes chip. wasnt that from doing a burnout tho lol
on surfaces other than tarmac it would understeer, but only at slow speed
once going a bit quick it was ok. i still crashed it enough tho lol
my advice, do it to a car that cost fuck all and that you dont mind giving the odd dent/scrape. it also helps when the car is not yours lol

so far in my sierra with a welded diff, it understeers below20MPH but you dont notice it being any different driving normally upto 70MPH so far for me.
If you have good grip it will be quick and stay grippy but if you have lost traction you wont regain it untill both wheels are straight and have stopped spinning in my limited experience. Also the rear seems more consistant so far. DO IT!
