the gripper rear should be fin in a 4wd, as for the front, well by the time you have spent all that money on a thick case, plate, diff unit and other mods i bet your close to R+D money with a bigger CWP, if you can go 7.5/8.5" front then i would say use the R+D, dont bother with the modifications to the std unit.
AG has used the R+D in his and had no issues, and he does launch it somewhat, as for the big tooth and 450ft/lb, do you think your engine will make that ? ive only really seen one engine builder (public engine builder) that woud stand a chance of getting you 450ft/lb from a 400hp motor - or even a 500hp motor.

i meant for the gripper unit, did you get a recipt with all parts used listed?

as in, fit gripper diff to casing, and any addional parts listed like output flanges etc?

or does it just use the std cossie ones?

cheers for any info you can shed lol.

ps where did you buy the gripper from?

Casing normally needs machining, as do the output shafts (Gripper).
VC shafts needed for Gripper, open diff shafts or Quaife supplied needed for Quaife ATB.
Less money than what has been quoted but it does depend on what is supplied or needed.

ill give you the answer to that, with the gripper you have to (or i would advise ) that you machine the ends of the std flanges to be slightly wider and deeper to accept sprung circlips, on the std diff you hold them in through the back plate with fixed large E clips, as the diff is a closed planetary setup with ramps you cannot fit these clips back on, but there is space inside for a spring clip to slidein and then relax off the spline.

I have fitted a good few of these in cosworth housings.
great diff unit.

Exclamation Which diff

I blew my diff up the weekend, it was an uprated vc one, it has done well as it has always had a lot of power flowing through it.
The engine has gone from 350 ish to 605 bhp 436lb/ft over the last 8 years with several upgrades.

My question is what diff would be most suitable for a car that weighs approx 750 kg with this sort of power? The car is 2wd

I would go with porkie on this but use the 7.5", as much as you dont need a very strong diff as you dont have the weight to propel, you do have good torque if you have sticky tyres, so at least you have the bigger cwp

Yea, on 7.5" at the moment, an absolute barstard to get out of the car especially with boot mounted radiator (doesnt drop out underneath) Only had it out once before and i broke 2 torque bits trying to undo the drive shaft studs.
I attempted to get it out Tuesday night and broke one again on the first stud! waiting for a Snap on one to turn up today, will try again the weekend.

Looking like a plated diff is the best option.

local fasteners and fit cap heads, plated is the best option, you need to find out what type of failure you had in the 7.5"

Hi Mike

just for the record

the bara diff is not £700 let me explain ....lol..

£700 is for a diff with everything in it .uprated VC/ uprated planet gears

it's 250 for the uprated VC unit

standard strip down re build is 150 then it's plus parts bearings seals ect

so if you have uprated VC without...the uprated planet gears £450

or a diff striped and rebuild with just upated planet gears is 450

700 is the top dog with everything

so non of the aftermarket diffs will be any use to you as they all retain the std cwp, could you get a 9" motorsport unit in?

Question

Not a hope in hell, it has taken all day to get it out of the car. The 7.5" diff has the corners ground off and quite a bit of the webbing ground off to fit in the chassis, it is sooooo tight and only comes out one way with the back plate removed!
Do you think the shot peening of crown wheels and pinions does any good? I think this is something Bara does.

i was just going to say, your only option is having a motorposrt cwp made or the cheaper optionm though maybe just a chance that shot peening may help to lengthen service life

If I suply a 3.62 viscous LSD, how much would you charge to strip it, change the viscous fluid within the limits of the standard plates and rebuild it with new bearings and seals?

Cheers

Had a few runs out in the car now, the plated diff is superb, it has also taken a lot of understeer out of the car under hard accelleration. The clonking at slow speeds on tight bends take a bit of getting used to though.
