not bothered about gaming. it will be a net browser, disc burner, film viewer (either vga or hdmi to plasma)

slightly off topic - the hmdi to plasma connection - does this work like an upscaling dvd if the output isnt hd?

Id be a bit wary of that m8 as just before christmas i got a acer 6930g on a mobile broadband contract with t-mobile. it had a similar spec i think,has that 1 got the high def screen and blue ray rewriter?
the one i had was 700 new and theyre 400 now on ebay,it had alot of software problems,and many of the new ones got sent back,fortunately i managed to sort it myself as im handy with a pc,once it was done it was a fantastic laptop.and that was the 6930g,never heard of a 6930z.id research it a bit more m8.or go 4 the 6930g that i had

no its just a tft and dvdrw drive.
software issues i can handle no problem, ive rebuilt many machines in my time. in fact first thing i'll be doing is formatting it and re-installing a clean os lol

That one in the first link will be fine for what you want, especially if you remove vista and install xp or something, it will fly.

ordered the one i was looking at, arrives tomm am, couldnt find anything spec wise to match it for the cash. plus i read loads of good reviews. bro in law is paying anyhow
