Default has anyone sprayed...

...their alloy wheels themselves. thing is i'm thinking of changing or updating my existing wheels ( tsw evo r see pic below ). if i am to update then i will remove the large centre cap so the boltholes are exposed, then fit a small centre cap in the middle to hide the hole in the centre ( probably with rs cap or ford cap ) then i want to change the colour to a really shiny but slightly darker colour. thing i want to know is, will the paint last and what colour to go for, in aerosol form. also where can i get good quality paint from or will halfords etc do the job. if anyone has done this i would appreciate any knowledge
if anyone is reading this that wants to do a deal with some 16's let me know ( must be mint )

thanks

i sprayed my own and my mates, went from silver to black. went to halfords, got matt black spray paint, cleaned wheels, painted them on the car, the inner dish was scruffy to hell anyway to that didnt matter, jobs a good one. paint stuck well. u can rub down lightly to get better stick but i didnt bother cos u can some times see scratch marks. go for it. lots of thin layers i always find works

well to be honest prepping is more important than the actural spraying i would have thought, so i'll be doing plenty of rubbing down. it's just i was wondering whether the paint would last being on the wheels. no point having them refurbed cos they are mint it's just i want them slightly different. anybody have any ideas on colour though?

I did a mates, sandblasted the wheels, hung them up in the middle of my garage so i could get all the way around. Then got some aluminium primer, then scotched them, sparyed them with the colour (black b4 you ask) and finally a couple coats of lacquer.... Proper Blue Peter stylee.

Joking aside they did look good and aint flaked or owt, a tip if you decide to do it is looottttsssss of misty coats is key.

Me personally though i'd get 'em powder coated seen as yourcar looks pretty mint... its the best way to go

don't really fancy black to be honest, looks tuff as fook on most cars but not sure it would suit mine as it's a bit of a bufty one. i can get them powder coated myself quite cheap ( around Ł100 ) but if i can get good results for half of that then i'll be chuffed. i'm not a chavvin cheapskate by the way, just fancy a change without throwing money away. i guess there is no harm in trying as even if they do go wrong it's not as if i've spent a fortune doing it. colour wise, does anyone recommend any good silvers out there, dark and shiny if poss, or maybe the colour of a car? ( not too sure what though )

oh and if your reading this thread Rob, you haven't sold your car to a lunatic blue peter fan

depends on how patient you are mate, but I have seen some good results. Maybe on yours go for white? black does look hard on a red car.

Best thing is thou, you do it and looks shite, send the wheels off to get done properly they will blast, chem clean the rims anyway so paint go bye bye.
