battery tray...
i took out my battery yesterday as all around the tray it was filled with sealer and then sprayed...
i knew it was a bad sign anyway, but just wanted to see how bad..
so took the battery out, and the battery tray itself is fine, but underneath theres a hole!
probly about 6cm x 6cms, could i just chop the rust out and have a plate welded and then just put the original battery tray back in? is that how people do it?
first thing though..how the bloody hell do you get the tray out?

yer, going to say ive spotted some sound deadening under the tray, as i was poking around...
so if i grinded out the tray, grind out all the rust and pull out all the sound deadening it should be ok just to weld in a plate and weld a new tray back in?

Use a spot weld drill to drill out the welds holding the tray in place. This will leave it in good condition for migging back into position.
Take out your glove box if you want an easy life. Remove sound deadening under the tray, most of the time I cut this away as its a moisture trap anyway. Then cut out all the rusty metal around your hole. Weld new patch in place, seam seal inside and out. Paint all areas, plug weld the tray back in, touch up the paint with another coat around the new welds.
All good.
