Question Will 240/610 R17 fit on 8J wheels?

As above, i can get a cheap set of yokohama racingtyres.Would like to fit those at the rear of a 3door)
Or are such tyres to wide for the wheel/rim?

I would say they are too wide for a 8j.

I've got the same size on a 9j and they are a bit big for them IMHO.

Yes, they will fit , these are the WTCC Yokohama control tyre i assume ? Theyre specced for a 9" rim but work fine on 8" aswell . Not as good as my BTCC Dunlops tho of course

240 too wide for a 9j?

my standard Bm rim is 9j and takes a 255. Can oversize also to 275 if desired.

They fit but its ruins the handling. If your a drag queen then yeah go wider (up to a certain weight) but for track/fast road/drifting you don't want balloon spec tyres.
