I love how this stupid fucking goverment think they way to sort out the recession is to get us all to get into MORE debt, which is exactly why we're in this fucking mess in the first place.
Also, it's useless to me. My car is a 2006 Avensis, but I just hate it. There's no goverment grant to get me one thats more interesting

I agree Lee, it's just stupid.... A global credit crunch because we've been borrowing more than we're paying off and they want us to get more!!
And Lee, I'd have plenty without debt pal It's why my car is so utterly shit

20K+ Super Poster.
Makes me laugh the motor industry for years has been building cars it can't shift, so we are being encouraged into helping polute the atmosphere more by building more cars to keep people in jobs!!
It has been shown time and time again that building newer greener cars they will never offset the emissions used to build the thing, whereas the existing cars are already built.
I don't know in these times if people are going to go and buy a new car just because of the grant, I wouldn't, the gov are assuming that people driving old cars would rather drive new ones, with massive depreciation, a lot just don't want to, personally they all got boring after 1980 imo.

if i was going to buy a new car anyway it would be worth getting a banger first so i get the £2G knocked off. but i wont be. it wont tempt me to buy a new car and the bosses being how they are wont be happy with that, theyll be scheming up ways to bump the prices up by £2G so they get the full price for the cars and the £2000 grant.

if this scheme kicks off it'll see the end of old cars on the road i think, the reason you can hardly find any old cars like sierras and std mk3/4 escorts is because of that scrap hike a couple of years ago, it was about 200 quid a ton or something and everyone was weighing everything in

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Personally I wouldn`t buy a new car because they are too expensive for me and I would just prefer an older car. This government is shit. What the f**k will they do next??

agree with the 200 per tonne thing, i was down at the breakers one day out of boring curiosity looking for some bits and bobs for my xr2i and saw 15 sierra's in one day be crushed and a tonne of fords coming in from pikeys just loading everything they could get their hands on... its a crying shame that its coming to this so the government can stoop this low to say that THIS is whats needed to stimulate the car industy AND get their own bloody way and get older cars off the road........... i smell a convoy coming on from all cars over the age of 9 on here and showing mr brown exactly what he can do with his scrappage allowance and scrap it up his fucking arse!

Just a thought. Isn't car TAX going up to stupid rate next year for cars under 9 years old?? anything over 2001 registered has not been effected?
So its a ploy to TAX people heavily next year.

That's just Citroen offering a discount called scrappage.
The official scheme hasn't started yet.
It looks like it's cars over £9k with conditions, like you have to have owned the scrapper for a year.
*CITROËN Scrappage & Trade-In Schemes
- Guaranteed £2,000 scrappage cashback for your old car will apply to customers trading in a qualifying vehicle first registered before 1st January 2000 against the purchase of a qualifying new Citroën passenger vehicle (excluding C1, C2, C3, C3 Pluriel, Berlingo First, C3 Picasso, Dispatch and Relay Combi models). To qualify for the cashback, vehicle must be presented with a Certificate of Destruction (C.O.D) provided by an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), a V5, valid MOT, be properly insured, legal to be driven on the highway, and have been registered in the customer’s name for a minimum of 1 year. This Guaranteed Cashback is the total value that a customer will receive from the Manufacturer when trading in their qualifying part exchange vehicle for a qualifying new Citroën. Only one claim may be made against each new vehicle purchased.

just finding my feet
you would pay it back anyway with the new tax classes and the new laws on parts for cars made after 2001 anyway, its just to get the old cars off the road so we pay more taxes on the newer cars !!!
cats on cars after 2001 are soon gonna cost a fortune

they seriously havent thought this through one bit to be honest, just another "make up quick to appear like we're doing something and being friendly to the environment" clauses that the make up.
next it'll be "cars with new engines are using less fuel, so less sales are needed and less petrol sold.......i know......MORE TAX ON IT ALL!" does my fucking head in how this country is ran!

its to get the older cars off the road with US allowing it to happen,, we are TAKING THEM off the road !!
they aint forcing us but all cars after 2001 are graded based on emissions

I dont mean YOU personally have to be in debt to have something ya plank The countries economy is run on borrowing! Thats why when borrowing slows, we go into recession, we NEED to start lending/borrowing to get it back up!

it's not car tax, it's something else
whereas with car tax youthought it was being used to fix the road like it was supposed to as it was based on the size of the vehicle, the new stuff is based on the emissions produced
so you can drive your gas guzzling, carbon beltching motor all over the place and destroy the planet (so the ecomentalists would have oyu believe) or you can do 5 miles a week in your eco free from road tax car
road tax should be based on the mileage done between mot's to make it fair, then at least you are paying for what you are driving and emitting

as always though, its never that simple in the UK, its all about money grabbing and the common british worker who wont stand up and voice his opinions and show that we dont want things changed, but when they are, we moan our heads off and then a week later just accept it.

in the old days it seems political parties paid attention to what the voters wanted and formed policies around this. nowadays politicians seem to regard themselves as elitists who know best and force their ideas onto us regardless.

its the fact that hardly anyone stands up to them now....
go back 20 years, coal miners, car workers, machinists, everyone if they were unhappy they damn well showed it regardless of the consequences....nowadays everyone's shit scared to do anything incase it causes "economic" problems and threatens their bonuses etc.... i'd love to see something from the car community, modified or not, do something and show that we are NOT taking this lightly and are going to be walked all over....... but the fact is most are happy so sit and bitch and moan at telly's computers and over chatrooms and forums but when the shit hits the fan they'll sit back quietly and go "its not as bad as what its made out to be"
