It will be ok if they go to breakers yards so people can get spares if needed. Be a shame if they are just crushed and weighed in.

you only get the money knocked off new cars if you are trading them in

a similar system works in germany where it's worth scraping your car if you are going to buy a new one, but not for a second hand car

the problem is that cars nowadays are so well made that you don't need to buy newer and newer motors so no one does

id rather have my older car that has less sensors to go wrong and is more enjoyable to drive than one of these bloomin road going computers today!

this scheme will drive some on here looking to make a quick buck to the big time of being able to get rid of perfectly good donor cars, and we will lose some very rare classics out there unless the owners clubs all work together and stop this.

i work as a valeter and ive seen more bloomin 58 and 09 plates in the last month than anything else in at our work so there cant be that much of a credit crunch!

Thats got nothing to do with a lifting of the credit crunch......

Valeting is a luxury service that people do not need, hence your average joe bloggs in the credit crunch will wash his own car to save a few pennies. There fore it will just be mostly the reasonably well off, lazy shits, and rich folk using valeters, and these are the same people most likely to be able to afford to buy a new car and get a bargain on a 58/09 plate car. Hence you are seeing a higher proportion of new cars.

To be honest, I don't think the owners clubs would have a hope in hell's chance of stopping it if they wanted to bring it in.

As for the valetting lark.... are these cars your getting in company cars... or like Warren says, just rich mucky lazy gits ...... maybe they went shooting and took the car onto the farm land and got it a bit mucky.

I had my car valetted once.... I was eight months pregnant was taking it to Ford Fair and I couldn't bend over to clean it properly inside..... so I spent £35. Was well spent but I wouldn't pay that normally.... wash and clean it myself.

There is a credit crunch on..... I would like to defy anyone who says there doesn't seem to be much of one..... all those major building companies aint reined in their money spending for nothing... and I know this.... cos my partner's had no wages since December 08.

What i find annoying is in this current recession, all the local banks in Stoke have replaced thier 57/08 reg company cars with 09 plate ones and they all seem to be higher spec than before!!! so much for the banks being broke I know this as all the local banks have season tickets to keep company and staff cars on the carpark 24/7

sorry but you obviously dont know anything about where i work from previous comments, im nowhere near any main dealerships, if anything places next to main dealerships suffer as usually dealers get their own contracted valeters in so business suffers for those close to them!

we have always did cars from every variety and age from a 43 year old morris minor regular customer to the latest 09 plates, but between working and doing them, and driving home, ive seen more 09 plates recently on the road than any other year when new plates are issued.

we get regular joe bloggs coming in for 90% of our business with the odd company guy looking to claim it on his company "freebies" list for those that are that fortunate. as stated we're nowhere near main dealerships, we get mainly joe bloggs coming into us which is around 95% of our intake per week, we dont hold any contracts for company vehicle valeting apart from a limo company for 2 limo's and a minibus but that is dealt with seperately from the day to day business.

its not just valeting you can see it in, all over the roads more 09 plates i feel have popped up in the last few weeks than any other year when new plates have been popped up, and its not just me saying that...maybe its only my area its happening but i doubt it.

i know all about wages being cut down, we all took a pay and hour cut to survive and now the fuel station is closing down because of this, i worked on sites before and havent set foot on a site in over a year!

i worked mainly with building sites apart from my time in the forces, and would love to go back to it, but because of the fat cats in this country wasting our money as per usual and living the high life on the honest average family workers hard earned wage in a bank with their shares in it...... we are the ones made to suffer and suffer quite badly at that.
