Default BIG BHP?

Ok strange question..

For a 'everyday' modified road going car what would you say the bhp would have to be to have the title 'big bhp'

hope the above makes sense.LOL

Bit vague!

I'd like to say anything 300bhp+

but that wouldn't apply to BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class and such like

Well...

Again, it's a tricky one. I'd like to say 330BHP (Stage 3) as that's plenty quick enough to be a properly fast road car.

But stage 3 Cossies are pretty common (Amongst Cossies).

So to wear a "Big BHP" tag, people would probably expect more than that.

But certainly must apply to anything 400bhp+

i mean if its a road car and a cossie then 350 is more than enough and is big bhp for a road car, if its track/drag then its a differnt kettle all together.

yes its a fair amount of power for a road car i mean if your using the full 400bhp on twistys your doing well.

get a 2wd on twistys with 400bhp then its very hard work

400 if you are talking to a member of the public,if its another cosworth owner or likeminded petrol head its up to 500bhp.

he said BIG not massive, "big" difference there.
and yes i would class a 400hp car as big bhp, but of course power to weight means a lot more

I would look at power to weight ratio, more than out right power.

Any car that can pull over 110mph down the 1/4 mile I would call big power for the road. You would not find may cars on the road that will hand your arse to you IMO.

Ballin what i meant is that stu commented 350 is a big bhp car.

What i was aying is if thats the case then a 400hp out the box m5 which is not a paticulary quick 0-60 is a massive bhp car!

I disagree personally but as i said its a quick road car.

It all depends on what car it is though...

A 300 bhp 7 series wouldn't be considered a big bhp car, but a 300bhp Fiesta would!

cvh..............- - - - - 280-300........

ive seen more power in both engines, but id be happy with those figures..........

for me id say any car thats doubles its standard output id class as big bhp ,

ie like a 400-450 hp cossie ,

or a 240 -280 bhp rst ,

it dont always work lol, but it gives you a good base to start with ,

suppose everyones opinon will be different ,depending on what power they go ect

I'd have said anything with over 350bhp no matter how big it was could still haul ass. For the slightly smaller, more lightweight cars out there anything 250+bhp would still be VERY quick (think mini cooper S, fiesta RS turbo etc)

Can only speak about Cossies no idea about other Fords.
I cant imagine a Cossie as an everyday car, its a fun toy & way to old to be considered for everyday use IMO .
If your not into Powerfull cars then a standard Cossie will be classified as big horsepower, I drove a 330bhp Escort that the owner assured me was fast, I could not believe it, no grunt whatsoever & felt like at least 2 of the leads were off. It depends what your are used to surely, to me a cossie comes alive above 600bhp, below that i always think it lacks real grunt & runs out of steam. Sorry but thats my view, give me my Proton for everyday use its far better, in that 80bhp is more than enough .
