If that is all it is going to do then you can get cheapo 42" screens that dont have speakers ect......like monitor's in pubs.

They are a few hundred quid if you look around.....even for 50" ones

you compare your plasma to a heater, and think its a good idea to have it near a dyno?

cool air is what you want!

heat is relative to the size of the room, a RR with a door open and LARGE ventilation is totally different to a bedroom with curtains/central heating and closed windows,,,, though i could be wrong

a old not quite HD plasma will be almost buttons tobuy now anyway i would have thought

wrong

its about whats best for the purpose.

plasmas are fantastic for movies, but are not good for static images as it can damage the screen.

almost every screen you see out there that holds static images for long periods will be LCD, for this reason.

martin isnt after a tv for home to watch movies on, he wants a big monitor, and be cost effective, ie cost as little to run as possible and be reliable with long screen life

older plasma's tend to give off lots of heat
lcd screens are much cheaper although less clear at the bigger sizes
although if you only want to do the rolling road stuff, have you considered a small porjector?
onto one of the walls?
nice and easy and much bigger, plus you won't have the risk of it falling down, getting broken, glare etc

as said here, some people are plasma lovers and some are lcd lovers lol
as also said it all comes down to what you want to use it for.

if you see allot of movies i would go for a plasma(have a 42" LG myself)
if not i would go for a LCD

Samsung is what i recommend (lcd) but many of the manufacture get the screen from the same factory, lol so bare that in mind

also, when buying, if you dont have some 5.1 speakers ect, try out the speakers on the tv, as many of them gives out crap sound (ow rollers.. lcd deff)

plasma also burn the image to the screen if its on the same picture over time, but black is black and it is better colors for the most part.

lcd some of them has crazy contrast, but remember it is "fake" contrast that it is the dynamic one that is the real one.

also, see how many hdmi/dvi/vga/s-video inputs it has, they will fill up fast lol

ow, if you are in a store and you see the classic splitted the screen in 2 and on the 1 side it is a super clear image and on the other side its a blurry version it is all just made that way, as they have fixed the blurry one as most people cant see the difference (my self included) and they are actually lying to you telling you that is soo much better lol

also

hdmi cables, under 2m buy the cheapest one you can get, they are as good as the best ones, it was done a test... will try 2 find the link if some one is interessted

but short at the end

movies = plasma
everything els = lcd (lcd also uses less power)

great another plasma v lcd argument

i have both at home and as already said depends on what you want to use it for martin they both have pro`s and con`s

if its for the rr readout then lcd all the way

if its for watching pimp my ride & porn at lunchtime then plasma

As above. I have a 50" plasma, and its a complete cunt for screen burn.

As you will be displaying a lot of static images, LCD is what you want!

If you are wanting them replaced its an easy job to turn off 16 pixels if you put your TV into diagnostic mode

i would go for an LCD, something from LG will do what you need as the screens are very good on LG's, but the sound tends to be shite,

i would also reccomend richer sounds, always the cheapest around where i live, and i used to work for one of their competitors!

for this purpose screen quality and definition is not really important as its location means it will be covered in crap within a week, get your arse down to aldi, tesco, co-op and get the cheapest screen you can find in the size you want

Performance 3000 have 2 42" LCD's above the dyno mart - very good for looking at dyno runs.

There is a video of it on youtube, search for Alan12112 dyno run

thankyou please
