hi everyone i bought a mk1 mondeo the other week but the speedometer has stopped working everything else is working like rev counter and the over bits, i have pulled the cable from the gearbox and turned the cable manualy and the needle moved up then back down to 0 mph, so i dont think it is the speedometer itself and the cable must be ok to as it turned theany help would be much appreciated

The little drive gear that sits on the top of the gearbox in a small housing where you pulled the cable from shears off or strips its teeth, only cost a couple of quid from Ford (you need the colour of the cog to order a new one) but quite hard to change as the housing is held in by a roll pin that is almost always siezed.

so will i have to take the gearbox off to do that, as all i found on top of the box, were the speedo wire plugged into was a little black sensor or something like that, has 3 wire's coming out of it with a triangle plug, and is black with a part number on the side and looks like it plugs into something in the box i'm guesing that the thing that it plugs into in the box is the part i need
