I used DL for just over a year and a half, cost £51 for myself and my daughter. Couldnt fault DL (only left cos i moved 92miles away), its a whole social/lesuire/fitness approch that works for DL.
Make sure you take advantage of the personal programmes they really do work i used to say the areas i wanted to work on and they did the rest, all the classes i tried i ended up doing most wks (abs one is fantastic). Found the other users very friendly and approchable and there was def scope for meeting new people.
Was good to sit and relax in the bar after with a coffee or sunday am with the papers.
Good luck

I use the gym on-site at work for £6 a month and go 3 times a week at lunch (its great having a workout and sauna in the middle of the day!)
Before that I went to Total Fitness which was really good but more expensive...

Me and Scott use Bannatynes in Chester-le-street, its £89 for joint membership.
I go about 3 times a week but mainly only use the gym. They do have classes on which are included in the membership but I've never tried any. The lad at the gym keeps trying to get me to go to a spinning class but I seriously think it might kill me lol!!
There is a sauna, steam room and swimming pool to chill out in but I rarely get to use them as I'm limited to the time I get to spend in the gym as I need to get back home for Bethany but I'm planning on taking Bethany swimming when Scott does his gym days
I tend to just go to the gym and get on with my workout then leave. It's surprising how many people are there during the day, I've been going for quite a long time but I haven't made any 'friends', the lasses who go normally have their own clique and the blokes are too busy making gorilla noises when they are lifting their heavy weights to get involved in a conversation

The local council ones tend to be the best value for money at anywhere between £24 and £30 for off peak and peak membership respectively... and for that you normally get use of the pools.
Private gyms tend to range from anywhere between £35 up to £60+ with the lower end usually not having the use of a pool.

£64 p/m at the grange hotel next to my office in the City. SUPERB gym and sans the fat adidas track suited pykies.
The city is swamped with LA fitness and Fitness Firsts.... not worth a pot of steaming piss in my opinion! a proper GYPO set of gyms

Maria,
I used to go to the Fitness First in Ipswich when it first opened, about 1999 I think ad it was shit. It was full of posers like Richard Wright, Jamie Scowcroft and Kieran Dyer when he wasnt injured! I got on ok with them and even played a bit of 5 aside with them a couple of times, but to a newbie they would have been a bit loud. It may be a bit better now but was not worth £30 a month. I go to the local lesuire centre gym here and pay £3 a time as I cant follow a set routine due to work and football commitments so a monthly plan is not for me.
The advice I would give is, dont go overboard lifting heavy weights etc.. as when you are tired and sore the next day, that leads to you not wanting to go back.

Gym + trim is alot smaller, you don't get a pool but have a steam room and jazzui (sp?) but very friendly staff.. But now you've been to David Lloyd don't expect miricles...
Like u say you get what u pay for
It's a independant gym aswell it's one of a kind (born and bred in Ipswich)
I'm off down there now.. might see if your there for an appointment.

Ha ha ha I just saw smit working his little socks off bless him!
The scary thing is, we both had the same glasses on!
Gym and trim to me already appeals more than David Lloyd, ok it's not as fancy, but it's much friendlier! And £30 a month cheaper!!!
Now off to fitness first!
